  • Evo IX or WRX STI...???

I am in the market for a quick little sedan - something that is a lot of fun, but can still haul the (future) kids around.

I have driven the Evo, and it was just silly fast - and Mitsu is basically giving their cars away right now.

I have not driven the STI yet - I am going to tomorrow.

From most of the tests and comparisons I have read, it seams like the Evo edges out the Subaru - but for some reason I have it in my head that the Subaru is a better car.

I would love to hear some input on this - hopefully from people with first-hand experience with both of these cars.

    Thanks!

Well, I only have a Legacy.. but so far, it is a real solid car. If every Subaru is built like mine, the STI is going to be hard to beat.

I think ign.com had an STi review a littel while back, did you get to read that one? I always like their car reviews. I am sure they have an Evo one as well.

wow thats a tough call, a Ford vs Chevy argument if you will, they both have there ups and downs.
From a performance standpoint I will give a slight hand to the evo, especialy if you going to modify it, larger aftermarket and FWIW the fastest Evo OBLITERATES the fastest STi

From a relability standpoint I think the Subi wins, and based on how well the Mitsu delerships treat their 3000gt and DSM owners, your far less likley to have to jump through hoops to get them to perform a waranty or recall work
        so to recap:
        STi: 1
        Evo:1
What your going to have to do is test them out, they both offer blistering performance, so its hard to go wrong with eather if you want a fast car. Im assuming this will be a dally driver so forget what your friends and the magazine reviews say and decide which has better ergonomics, comfort and fits you better overall.
Oh btw allot of the evos performance comes from the tires, the Yoko Advan AD07 have a tread compound thats only slightly harder than gummy bears so if you want to keep that feel your gonna have to drop ~$275 a PIECE about every 20,000 miles, put thoughs bad boys on the STi and it might even the playing feald a little performance wise (STI comes with mediocre tires)

Evo if you are going to mod it a lot.

STi if you plan on keeping it stock, or close to it.

            Mazda 6 MPS! (And I own a Subie )

If it were up to me, I'd get the Evo. They're rarer, they go better, and they don't have a hood scoop. That said, the STi is an amazing car, and is a bit more liveable in terms of practicality and Noise/Vibration/Harshness.

My opinions, test both and pick your side.

To the previous reply, Doesn't the evo have an air inlet sort of thing?

This is a tough call... I would go with the STi because it will not rattle your teeth loose. Supposedly, the Evo has a suspension that is super hard and doesn't like a rough road. The STi has more street potential.

Plus, the STi will last longer.

I am glad to hear the STI will last longer - since that is the way I am leaning already.

I just remember being very imperessed by the Evo when I drove it.

As far as looks are concerned, the STI just looks a bit more mature - while the Evo has that boy-racer look that I am not too fond of.

I am going to drive the Scooby in a few hours - I might even go drive the Evo again...back to back comparo would be good.

I will let you all know what I think...

I drove the Subaru. I didn't go back and drive the Evo - I liked the STI THAT much.

First of all, just the start-up and idle of the boxer-four was nearly enough to make my decision for me. It just sounds delicious.

Even though it's smaller on paper than the Evo, it felt a bit bigger - but in a good, stable and solid way.

It's silly fast, and brakes like it has a parachute. The interior felt of a higher quality than the Evo, and was much more comfortable for me. I felt like I was sitting in an adult's car - not a teenager's. (Sorry, young guys - I hope you know what I mean )

My choice is made - the wife said I had to sell the Titan first, then it's off the Subaru dealer.

Oh, by the way - the manager I talked to said he is having trouble getting rid of the last three 2006 STI's...he quoted me, ON PAPER, $8K under sticker.

Sounds like a Subaru for you! Long term a very wise choice, EVO parts out of warranty are big $$$$. I've worked on & owned Subaru's for decades, also worked on Mitsu's too. The new hot ride is the Legacy Spec B, a real sleeper & a limited edition too. Great price on the STI,-$8K,get it!!!! Enjoy!

I would have said STi, but looks like you already decided on that, lol. Our Baja made me a beliver in Subie, but a ride in a friends STi sealed the deal. It his dd, and daum whatta car.

                            Glad to hear it

I've never felt too attatched to owning one brand of car, but this Subaru might have me hooked now. I'm glad I'm not crazy and some people agree...
