While that is true, I have never driven with the 4WD on the streets, it isn't good for the drive train or tires. I can however comment on driving 4WD in the desert, but that isn't really a fair test due to the fact that it isn't paved.

Your are forgetting about the spare tire. Because only four wheels are driven it is 4wd. If all five wheels(4+spare) were to be driven it would be considered AWD. JK

          Re: rear wheel drive

My first two cars were FWD and when I finally got my truck which is RWD it was a huge difference and I love it especially doughnuts in the snow and burnin out. tI hope to never turn back unless I get my dream car an A4 where I can enjoy the benefits of quattro AWD

yeah tehres a diff. between 4wd and AWD. for suree. You cant turn on the street in 4wd unless you want to bind up some stuff. AWD is ALWAYS active. therefore not the same so dont try and say it is.

              Re: rear wheel drive

Being in a snow state rear wheel drive is (NOT) good in snow.
I currently drive a 91 RANGER XLT RWD It gets stuck all the time even added 200lbs to truck bed (in-between axle} little improvement ..
It's great for drifting.. I miss FWD this time of year...

While I've already professed my preference for RWD I guess you haven't seen Jesse do a burn out with his SRT4, or me with my PT Turbo. Before I got my drag radials I had times when I just smoked 'em for a good 100 feet at the track.

Right you are Jonathon. The Subaru WRX STI, Mitsubishi EVO, Audi Quattro or even the Lamborghini Gallardo are AWD. None of them have anything in common with the 4WD setup on Ryan's Liberty, or a Chevy Silverado 4x4, or a Hummer, etc. Technically the systems are very different.

For me it;s rear wheel drive only. I hate that torque steer that you get from fwd.

Real cars don't power the front wheels, they lift them!
