  • 50 dollar paint job...

    Hey guys,
I found a thread on this at Autopia and although it's a white car and you really can't see up close, it's pretty amazing I think what this guy did with Rustoleum and a roller! Amusing to say the least...

I know that back in the 50's and 60's kids would use paint brushes to re paint there cars.. but it would show because some wouldnt know the technique of the strokes and thus some would get those fine lines where it looks like they hand painted it with a paint brush...... crazy times back then... but seriosuly wicked cars

but that guy looked to do pretty good at it... didnt think u could get a shine out of rustoelom (spl).... neat car as well

That turned out pretty good. I am so going to try that when it gets warmer. Not on a car, maybe my old computer case. Now I just have to wait 3-4 months for it to warm up.

Wow. I've seen other examples of these roll on paint jobs, but never one that looked quite this good in the end. Pretty amazing.

I think it started on the Mopar forum.

              Re: 50 dollar paint job...

I have seen several nice white ones, but the darker colours rarely turn out. Moreover the orange peel is really really bad. I saw a nice flat black E30 the other day painted with tremclad. The stuff is actually quite good for painting metal fences and such, but repainting that 356 is just wrong! It is a classic and deserves much more than a roller paint job. :p Canada is the home of the $50 paint job, because all the stuff is available at Canadian Tire for under 50.

Note to anyone who is about to try it, it only does an okay job of "self leveling" and make sure you get the regular tremclad not the automotive tremclad. (Rustoleum for Americans)

Interesting article. suppose for somebody who buys a beater for their kid it was a good deal. why spend a fortune on an older car. to most people that thing looks good enough. nice to see that they at least tried it themselves.

I remember seeing that a while back. Very impressed. I have seen many spray painted cars, but I never would have thought you could paint a car with a roller and have positive results like that.

That is impressive and sounds like it took some time and work. Don't think it will ever replace the traditional paint job but still interesting.
