  • Why are other sites so hyped up on layering?

    Just that, why are sites so hyped up on layering?

    You know.... You can't layer product ABC with Product GHY but if you layer Product THY with Product LYE and the shine reads 6.59875654 on your shine meter you can then do 2 layers of Product ACD 1.5!

      It all started when word got out that the "post-it" adhesive was an accidental discovery.

            It all sounds to me like the saying " if you throw enough stuff out there something will stick." lol

              Re: Why are other sites so hyped up on layering?

              To date no one's proved layering can be done with emphasis on the words to date.

              At least not with the hand-applied waxes, paint sealants, polishes or anything that falls under the term "paint protectant" where the product is applied, allowed to dry and then the dried residue is wiped off.

              Of course we have to discuss this topic with a clear definition of what we mean by the word "Layering" or "Layer" to be sure we're all on the same page and we're comparing apples to apples and not apples to oranges.

              What's the deal with "Layering?"

              Some of these new LSP's that are sprayed-on, allowed to dry and then 'NOT' wiped off... now these could potentially create a measurable layer because you're not wiping anything off, so it's kind of like taking a spray can of clear paint and spraying it onto your car's paint.

              Theoretically if you continued to do this and with each application you're leaving a new film or layer of product behind, then this should produce an increasing and measurable film-build of product. So theoretically these products could be layered.

              But that begs the question, if you're truly creating a layer of sprayed-on protection, how do you maintain this layer over time?

              If previously sprayed on layers of protection can be coated over with more applications of sprayed-on protection and thus continue to increase the thickness of the coating, then the questions are;
              • How do you care for the layer?
              • If the layer gets a swirl or scratch, can you polish it out? Or do you fill it in with a new layer?
              • Will future layers adhere to previously sprayed layers or peel off?
              • How do you remove the layers to get back to a fresh base?

              Haven't seen these questions asked, or answered on any forum yet.
