We are almost there. Your computers can see each other. Now all we have to do is get the shared drives mapped. Make sure you know what you named the shared folders on each computer.
On the upstairs computer:
1. Double-click My Computer
2. On the top left of the window look for "File Edit View Favorites Tools Help" Click on Tools
3. In the tools menu click on "Map Network Drive ..."
5. In the "Map Network Drive" dialog box Select any Drive letter you want
6. In "Folder:" type \\192.168.1.2\sharename (without quotes).
7. Put a check in the box for "Reconnect at logon"
8. Click Finish.
9. Check windows explorer and see if the drive shows up.
On the downstairs computer do the above except for
I'm 99% where I want to be. Okay... here's the deal... I can share the C drive on my upstairs computer, I can click on it, open it and open certain folders in it, but for example the two folders I really want to access are my music and my photos and can't get either.
I can get to the folder, but I can't open it.

3Fitty,
OK. We can fix this. Your credentials arent getting passed through like they would if you were on a domain. I will need you to re-map the drives and add one more step.
Use the same drive letter and when it warns you that there is already a drive mapped to that letter, just click ok.
1. Double-click My Computer
2. On the top left of the window look for "File Edit View Favorites Tools Help" Click on Tools
3. In the tools menu click on "Map Network Drive ..."

6. In "Folder:" type \\192.168.1.2\sharename (without quotes).
7. Put a check in the box for "Reconnect at logon"
7.1 Click on "Connect using a different username"
7.2 In the "Connect as" dialog box type in on the downstairs computer "upstairs\username" without the quotes.
Reverse the process for the upstairs computer.
Note: make sure you use the username and password that you use to logon to the upstairs computer
7.3 Click OK
8. Click Finish.
9. Check windows explorer and see if the drive shows up.
Mike
Why do we drive on a Parkway, and park on a Driveway
For whatever reason, it won't work, so I improvised.
I mapped by "itunes' folder as "Y" and it worked. Maybe I'll just map all the folders I want pictures and video are probably the only other ones ("W" and "X") and that'll be the end of it.
Thanks a lot for all your time and help.
