Yikes, youngest has cell phone now.....

Gang,

Just got our youngest her cell phone!

We usually wait until they all hit Freshman year in high school, but alas, we caved in, but her birthday and she graduates 8th grade in the same week and she wanted a certain cell phone for both occasions.....

We got her an LG VU cell phone and when we got home, my wife said "I'm calling Kaitlin" (oldest kid) Then Allison's phone rang in my pocket and I picked it up and said, "you called the wrong kid" and handed Allie her phone, she didn't know what was up and I said, "you called Allison's phone" then, she freaked out and started jumping up and down and screaming......

If you heard screaming, it was probably Allie, around 6ish tonight.....

Wish me luck that we don't have a $2,000 bill, we have unlimited texting so we should be okay!

5 people on one plan! Sheesh! At least we don't have the oldest on our plan anymore!

Be sure she dosent drop it, these phones break rather easy.

too bad Nextel aint around anymore, you couldnt breal those phones if you tried.

They are growing up so fast!!!!
Just make sure she does not take it to school, it is a bad combination with girls.
Most of their grades drop because they just text and do not pay attention, I see it first hand.

HEy congrats, but just a heads up, i worked for Verizon and you really need to make sure your text is covered, and any web surfing on the phone, i've spoke with too many angry parents haha

My youngest is in college, her record as of January is just over 7200 text messages in one month....

In case your wondering, she is double majoring in criminal justice, and sycolo....psykolog.... cy-kolgy!
And she's on the deans list!!!

She is careful with her stuff!

She's a 4.0 student, 3.99 and phone is gone

We have family unlimited text, almost 2 years on plan with not one hiccup except a "survey" I took on Facebook and won a ring tone (Star Trek) and checked it out, ended up paying 10 bucks a month for it and we got it reimbursed.

Our middle one record is 3000+ for a boy not bad. he has suffered a grade loss in a few classes and has suffered the consequences..... Amazing how grades go back up when they can't go out with girlfriend, go to buddies to skate around and taking phone when homework is being done and proving homework is done and getting grades emailed to our home account and taking phone into custody after 1000hrs! Also, if grades slip, insurance on truck goes up and gosh darn it, it's about 40 bucks a month and that's what we charge the boy! LOL, I make him pay, then put in his account, the pain on his face paying us is punishment enough, he's saving for wheels and tires for his pickup. Got 80 bucks so far! LOL! He washes dishes, so 40 bucks is a lot of dishes, but he is a quick learner!

OH yeah, any internet, game purchasing etc = loss of phone and reimbursing of funds for such items.....

No problems so far, we have 3 kids on the plan, 18yr old girl(going to graduate), 16yr old boy (entering JR year) and now 13 year old (entering 9th grade). I did check MOL on a trip when we were computer less but my screen was so small and it was hard to navigate the site it wasn't worth it.....cost me like 3 bucks....LOL. I got ripped by my wife

Ohh the joys to look foward to in 10 years! I wonder what kind of technology we'll have then.
I'm seriously dreading getting my daughter a cell phone when the time comes. I'm sure the wifey doesn't have a problem with it. I like your approach Nappers. My biggest worry is going to be her chit chatting and driving at the same time, wife does it and drives the **** outta me....she know's it and still does it!!

They grow up fast!! Last night on the news there was a story on texting and teens, it may scare you. Some of the abbreviations I had no clue what they meant.

Yet another thing to look forward to!!! I've still got some time as my son is only 4 and my daughter is 2.

I expect I can probably get away without cell phone for at least another two weeks!! LOL

You sure it wasn't Allie? She was jumping up and down so hard, she almost got hit by a blade from the ceiling fan! It was like she was rebounding a basketball!

It's been fun so far with her..... She's a good kid, fear of God, proactive parenting and love keeps her pretty straight and narrow, actually all of our kids are great!

I know the feeling, I caved during Christmas to get my stepson a cell phone. It actually was not bad only $10 more a month to my bill and I have access to limit his account as I see fit with just a few clicks

This is what gets a lot of people. Text blah blah blah to this number for a text, some of them have a $25/Month auto charge they like to put on. But don't settle with your phone company if your not happy, they can make a LOT of changes for you, you just have to put some muscle into your tone. Or say "One time Credit" a bunch, they will give in.
