  • Another little game...How long before I lose power?

How long before the wind blows hard and this limb rips down my line? Right now we have high winds, with a front moving through

This one is right above it. Once it falls, it'll be all over

If Nick loses power, how will we ever know? No power = No internet = No MOL...unless he has one of those fancy internet phones.

I don't think that one branch is heavy enough to do any damage.

Likewise, we were only down for 40 hours but the ice was followed by heavy rain when the ground was already saturated. The sump crocks in the basement overflowed causing some insurance-covered calamity but the rest was just serious inconvenience. I'm glad I decided to go with a gas-log fireplace insert when I built the shack instead of a woodburning fireplace. Kept the house at 62 degrees when the outside temps were below freezing.

Although that experience wasn't a major calamity it gave food for thought, especially since other parts of NE Ohio were without power for 10 days. A few years ago my neighbor ended up with water in the basement after an extended outage so he had a natural gas powered whole-house generator installed. Sitting in a dark house with candles flickering while hearing the hum of his generator and lights flickering through the trees convinced me..... I had an 18kw whole house unit installed that can power everything I've got except the A/C and electric range at the same time. Didn't want to spend that kind of loot but sooner or later they'll be an extended outage where I expect it to prove to be priceless.

So did ya loose any power Nick? I know the feeling, in winds over 30 mph my house becomes very prone to power outages.
By the looks of it, at least the foot of snow's just about gone!

looks like it will do some damage. Better get that trimmed quick. Hope you don't lose power.

id go out with a ladder and a limb cutter and get that baby cut down. No sense in just sitting there and watching it!

That's all and well, but in case you didn't know, Nick just had BACK SUGERY!! I think it would counterproductive for him to be doing some labor intensive work at this time.

Either that or my SARCASM sensor is broke and I didn't pick it up in your post....LOL!
