    Hello MOl,

as some of you know iam located in Santiago Chile, the earthquake was a 8.8 here with a 9.0 at the epicenter about 200 miles away alot of buildings were destoyed, i woke up at 3:40am to a small shake but in a couple of seconds the bed was jumping and the house looked like ruber, i builded my house like a prefab/mobile home, so its about 16"-20" off the gound on piers, that helped alot on dampening the ground movement but both of the trucks, expedition and suburban jumped of the ground,

i was able to get up and run to look outside thru my door, and the trucks even moved a bit, the moon was bright, and the sky changed colors, it lasted about 2 minutes at a 8.8 grade.

started up my generator right away, and tv was not transmiting nor the radio, so i conected my wifi and notebook to see the news, there is alot of damage, supermarkets are closed, roads have huge cracks and bridges are down, a tsunami hit some of the coasts with waves goingin about 7 blocks in, theres alot of dead people, and buisness went down to nothing, i had a car for a full detail on saturday and sunday, but without electricity and no roads, i cant work, i also had a project with VW to work on the 8th on another comercial on the south of Chile, so iam not sure whats going to happen now, people are just focusing on basics like fuel and food, i doubt they will worry about the look of their vehicles now.

well the good thing is my family is great also some close friends.

Wow, pictures and media tell it all, this is devasting to the people of Chile.....I have family in Argentina and Brazil and from what I understand it was felt in parts of these areas as well. I hope things return to normal again soon, although it will take years for the Country of Chile to recover, Thank god the casualties were minimum, although any casualties are bad.

Glad to hear that your family and friends were not directly affected, and I hope you are up and operating again soon.......as the people of Chile recover from this major tragedy....we wish you all the best and our prayers are with you!

We've been following the story, hermano, especially those of us who live along the Pacific Rim and undoubtedly in Hawaii as well.

I have never experienced a quake of that magnitude. The strongest one I ever felt was a 6.2. The Richter Scale is exponential, so an 8.8 quake is dozens of times more powerful than the one that hit Haiti last month. Kind of like the difference between a category 4 and 5 tornado.

May God bless you, your family, and your countrymen. I know the guys over at Truth in Detailing were concerned about you as well.

Thanks alot guys for all the prayers, i have been calling and email my clients to know if they are alright, thank God they are all fine, only a minor bumber scratch on one of them from a wall, but besides that they are all fine, it will take years to recover all the damage and i hope we can be up and runing soon (which i doubt).

the main roads that conect santiago are damaged, and the port is a mess, piers and ships damaged, and fuel is being controled to 10 dls per person, my only truck is an expedition so with 10 dls its enough for the startup LOL, but i dont need to go out or anything so its fine, aparantly VW will move the recording to the 12th of march so that is a secure 4 days of work, that will help to buy some things for the house, and pay for a big order that i made to autogeek that same night, now i only need cars to work on!!

I took the pics of some news sites, but here is a link with some pictures, they dont show the heavy damaged areas from concepcion,

i was watching the news right now and was shocked with some of the damage in constitucion, i was there 30 days ago with my brother and dad, we were there about 10 days working with renault on the catalog and comercial, it was a beautiful place, lovely people, we stayed right at the beach on some beautiful cabins in the beach, the place disapeared under a tsunami i cant believe it, it was a small town and now its just rumble, it was a miracle that we came back to the capital or else we would be dead. there are alot of missing people, from the news there are dead people on the beach, inside vehicles and houses. this is were the epicenter was and hit with a 9.0 for a couple of minutes. the water will be cutted off for 3 days now also.
