  • So it's orange peel you're after...

Over Spring Break we took a trip to Santa Fe from Houston, a good 15 hour drive and we're still 10 hours out. While in Amarillo we stopped at the Cadillac Ranch on the side of I-40 where Stanley Marsh has a collection of 10 Caddys ranging in years from 1949 to 1963. Over time passing tourists have stopped and left their marks on the Caddys with their favorite sharpie, spray paint, etc.

I thought I would share some pics of the intense amount of paint on these cars!

(the CCZ would be my initials )

Then we got out a knife and peeled off some paint:

I felt pretty bad not priming over the bare metal we left Paint OCD I call it!

Overall definitely worth the stop. Pretty cool gig they've got going on!

Haha That is pretty awesome! Talk about orange peel!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

Well to answer my own question lol:

The Cadillac Ranch, located along the tatters of historic Route 66, was built in 1974, brainchild of Stanley Marsh 3, the helium millionaire who owns the dusty wheat field where it stands. Marsh and The Ant Farm, a San Francisco art collective, assembled used Cadillacs representing the "Golden Age" of American Automobiles (1949 through 1963). The ten graffiti-covered cars are half-buried, nose-down, facing west "at the same angle as the Cheops' pyramids."
