Collinite 476 Super Double Coat Wax

I am not trying bash any product and in fact, I am a 100% Meguiars user right now, but I am looking to see if it is beneficial to expand my horizons, if you will.

I was not really sure where to post this so I decided this area would be best. Has anyone used this wax (in the title) or any of the Collinite waxes? I have heard good reviews about them all but I just wanted to see if anyone had some good information on them.

For those of you who like some Collinite waxes over Meguiars or vise versa, could you tell me your reasoning? Thanks in advance!

I've used #845 and #915 and like them a lot. They look great, give the boutique waxes a run for their money, cheap, and the biggest selling point, they have some of the most durable LSP's out there. No disrespect to meguiars but given the the choice of collinite waxes and megs, I'd go with collinite.

Try some some other products and broaden yourself. Though megs does make some good stuff you will soon realize there is a lot more out there.

Collinites have excellent durability. 476 is easy to use only if applied thin, like M16 was and 845 is slightly less durable and much easier to use.

Even if I am on a manufacturers forum, I still state an unbiased fact. I don't play to anyone's favor no matter what.

That being said, 476 and 845 are essentially twin products. The only thing is one is a paste (476) and the other is liquid (845). Both are probably the best OTC waxes you can buy for their longevity and some looks. They are both essentially hybrid type waxes in other words (sealant durability, carnauba looks).

In a nutshell, I like 845 much better due to the huge disadvantage of 476. Apply 476 too thick, or let it sit too long, and you should not go to the gym later for any arm workouts. 845 is much more user friendly and it is fairly simple to apply thin layers. Essentially, 845 has replaced my "sealant" layer I tend to use before topping with a carnauba wax of my choice.

All in all, at under $15 a pop when I found them (bought multiples), its cheaper than NXT x.0, lasts longer, BUT, it does not look as good because instead of a darkening glow (which I like now that I have a dark car), its a light glow (makes the shade of the paint brighter if that makes sense). Seeing as I top every sealant layer I put on a vehicle with a carnauba, looks do not matter as much since the carnauba layer takes care of that aspect.

Flavor of the month at my house currently is #915. Just used them on a few of my customers' cars. Good durability. Cant comment much on the look after application.

I did not notice any distinctive difference on the nuance, shade, gloss, slickness etc. But compared to Meguiars, in example M21 2.0 or even M26, the look after application will be more distinctive (my test beds are black) and color is richer, glossier and off course better slickness from the surface.

Plus, I previously did a simple experiment by giving a customer a chance to play with two waxes (915 and M21v2). Typical mistake is that they will evidently apply it a bit thick/heavy. They gave up on 915 but M21v2 buffed off with ease. That is just one facade of the experiment though.

#915: A little bit more pricey than Meguiars though. Good durability. Even so, does not mean I abandon completely Meguiars' waxes/sealants. Still using them on other cars.

I'm not sure I want a wax that lasts a year! I have virtually a garage queen as it is, I would never get to wax it! But I can see that kind of durability might be good for customers that you know aren't going to be taking care of their cars between major details.

I need the longest lasting wax possible, because from late October to March at the EARLIEST, I cannot wax my car. M26 lasts about 2-3 months, and that's it. I do love what M26 and NXT 2.0 does to my paint. Depending on how I want the paint to look, those are my two most common waxes.

I plan to try Colinite at some point.

476s and 845 Insulator Wax are not the same products. There is a better equlilvent to a liquid version of 476s, I believe it is called Fleet Wax (#870). It resides in their marine line.

476s and 915 are very similar, but 915 is a bit more user friendly. Haven't seen the need to pony up for 915 considering how long a tin of 476s lasts. I have a shelf full of 476s and 845, couldn't say enough about them. If you are looking for a LONG LASTING product, check out Collinite. I have a lot of Megs products, but my LSP's are almost always Collinite.

Also, they have a Metal Wax that I just picked up from ADS. Should have it in a few days and will be posting some pics of the product online. Reviews are positive from what I have seen.

You can certainly wax it more often... no harm, no foul. But I'd also say that those time frames are in the best situations (limited UV exposure, no rain or washing). Personally, I'd not go longer then 6 months with any wax.

I have tried both 845 and 915. Didn't care for the 915 too much - it was too hard to work with and didn't last long for me. I don't know why? Collinite 845 is awesome though. I applied it to one of our cars back in early January. It has been through all that nasty winter stuff we had, the pollen, and everything else. This car sits outside 24/7 and is a daily driver. Since application, it has been washed several times and gotten a few applications of Ultimate Quik Wax. Went to wash it again today since I'm fixing to polish it, and it was still beading decently. Not strongly, but you could tell the protection was still there. After roughly 4 and 1/2 months of abuse, I think that says something about it. It is very easy to use as well. Can't go wrong with 845.

It would be nice in the winter to have a wax that would make it through maybe 3 monthly touchless washes and not to have to worry about it until the ice starts to melt.

476s is a great product, I've sparingly used it on paint because I tend to go for a LSP that adds more to the look, but nothing is better for wheels. I've done an emprical test, I've sealed three out of four of my wheels and found that the uncoated wheel definitely looked dingier and collects brake dust more rapidly.

I use Collinite 476 for my white pickup and light colored vehicles I know won't be waxed for quite a while.

It doesn't look as good as most Meg's LSPs, but on white you can't tell. It does however outlast Meg's LSPs in my experience.

You can also use 476s on metal.
