  • Restoring Old Toolbox, Ideas Needed

My dad has an old toolbox that is in pretty good shape except it's scratched to heck from about 30 years of use... I'm going to be tearing it down and flushing the slides and regreasing everything, removing any dents I can find, etc... also sandblasting it...

I'd like to hear some ideas on paint schemes... and Ideas for drawer liners...

I thought about doing spray in bed-liner for the insides of the drawers instead of using some sort of mat. Thinking about painting it yellow. Figured a yellow and black theme would look nice. I plan on doing this correctly with a base-clear setup, want it to look nice when finished since he used this to support our family throughout my childhood...

The box is mine now, it'll hold my tools, and I'm pretty easy on things so it should look nice for a very long time.

Anyways, I'd love to hear some ideas.

    Thanks

    -Rick

Cool, the box I have is pretty large. It's a stacking box, about 6 foot tall...

I may go with an exotic color. We shall see.

I think it is a good idea about using the spray on bed liner for the inside of the drawers. Let us know how it turns out.

Sounds like a fun project. Looking forward to seeing the pics when it's done.

Personally, I'm a big fan of powder coating when it comes to tough paint and shades of blue are my preferred colors. If you have the time and the skill a collage of your Dad working would be cool, given the history of the box. For draw liners I like cork. You can find 30"x48" rolls of self adhesive cork at Home Depot in the back where they have shelf liner paper next to the blinds. It's about $3 a roll.

            Good luck.

Thanks for the input... I've never considered cork...

I'm actually considering white now. Or maybe doing the entire thing in bedliner...

Plum Crazy Purple could look pretty neat...
