  • Any mechanics here??

Before i had new calipers put on the car the brake pedel was very hard and i did not have to oush down a lot to stop the car(all the pads are less then 2 months old)I had new calipers put on my car cause I went with a powder coated pair, and now The car isn't to hard to stop and I push the pedal about half way down to stop the car but after I have the car stopped I can push the pedal all the way Down with no problem, I don't remember being able to do this before, i had the brakes bleed the day I put the calipers in and drove and then I had the brakes bleed the next day and it still does it, could it be because the calipers are new and need more pressure to push the piston out until they brake in or is it the master cylinder.
When the car is off and pump the brake pedel is does get hard to push down, it doesn't get completely hard to the point where I can't push it but it does not move a lot, it does get stiffer, the are no external leaks and I do not need to add brake fluid after driving, could it just be the calipers need to brake in?

Edit- is it all in my head cause everyone is telling the pedal is fine, my mechanic and my friend is put the calipers in who put the calipers in also when changing the front left caliper me and my friend didn't realize the the copper washer on the brake line fell off so the brake fluid leaked but the master cylinder resovier was not co
Completely empty but was pretty low, it did go below the min line but there was a little fluid still there

Edit number 2- when stopped at a light the pedal does not slide down to the floor on it's own

I am no mechanic. It sounds like it could be a problem with the master cylinder.

He changed out his OEM brake cylinders for powder coated units.
The dealership would smile and say, "sorry... you voided your warranty".

no. the dealership would still look @ it? and the dealership has to prove the aftermarket accessory caused a failure....if it did...then he would be charged...i say the dealership because they MIGHT know more about the car then another "Joe Smoe" shop...but some service ppl @ dealerships are "not very bright". lol

The fact that you changed out the calipers. It could be something as the brakes were not bled properly. They still have air in the lines.

This, but also, does the master cylinder have to be bled too? If it does, it needs to be done before the four corners can be properly bled. The brass crush washer you mention is important as well. That fact that the master cylinder got so low, it could have very well sucked in some air while you were driving/braking.

That's what my mechanic said it is, there is air in the master cylinder, after the master cylinder is bled do the brakes need to be bleed again

Yes, because your brake lines haven't even been connected yet if you are bleeding a master cylinder.

Watch the video below. It's not elegant but it get the point across. The old dude knows what he's doing.

I didn't see where you said you replaced your master cylinder, but if you did, yes it must be bleed. If not you've introduced a large amount of air into your brake lines.
I suggest power bleeding your brake lines. You can search for a video on that too.
