Good news the patients have expired on 3000 grit sand paper so Norton,Mirka and other Mfg will be releasing theirs which should help with the pricing. 3M was selling for $ 5.00 per sheet for trizac

Now sure I understand? Are you saying that competitors will be offering the same type of sanding technology? Of just 3000 grit ###

First, I thought this thread was about bad hospital care. Then, I thought it was about expired patents.

Now, I realize it's about the state of our educational system.

Not like a competitor couldn't had just changed the abrasive's rating prior? There's several other companies that offer sandpaper in the 2400, 3200, 3600 range. Not like 3000 is the magic number.

Hope the prices do go down.

                      Re: Patients expired

                      Sorry, I don't believe it.

Like David said, grit# is just a size rating. It's not an "invention." I can't believe there are patents for a given rating.

Sure, you can patent a design, material or manufacturing process, but a size? Makes no sense.

Even one of the mentioned examples is wrong, companies other than Mirka already make P2000 abrasives (including 3M and Norton).

There's got to be a lot more to it. I'm sure something like the Trizact design or process is patented. But that's a whole different enchilada.

I'm not sure how a patent expiring would help pricing on the sandpaper since 3M owns Meguairs. It would seem nothing will change.

                          3M owns Meguiars?

                          Does Meguiars know this?

I'm not sure what 3M owning Meguiar's has to do with the price of sandpaper?
