  • Any fishermen out there?

I recently inherited a few salt water rods and reels. The rods are in great shape but the line guides have some corrosion. Nothing I would want my fishing line constantly running through. The guides seem to be chrome plated. They still have a shine to them but looking closely they have little (bump like) spots of corrosion. Any suggestions how to remove this corrosion? I used a rag and some APC and scrubbed one guide and noticed some improvement..........but whew.......I'd hate to try and get all of it off this way. Way too much elbow grease and way too many guides. Suggestions please.

    Thanks

I fish, but Im a LONG way from being a pro!! They dont have TV shows for Pro Snaggers like I have been classified as by a few people.

I have no idea on how you could remove it. Probably alot of rubbing. Maybe some scratchx or even dcs #1 might do the trick.

      Fish??? Man...do I ever!!!

Anyway, many of the of the guides are simply chrome plated which will oxidize and or peel over time. I would suggest trying Meguiar's NXT Metal Polysh and really work the product. If they still feel rough, then most likely the guides are damaged and may end up cutting your line. You can always have someone replace the guides. I have made my own fly rods, and steelhead rods, it is not easy, but it can be done. But, it may be wise to call a sporting goods shop and ask them about replacing the guides.

I was affraid I would have to replace the guides but it doesn't hurt to ask and see if anyone has any magical tips. I will try NXT metal polish before making the call to a sportsman store.

        Thanks
