I'll go first, I'm 45, built on February 12th, 1961 :D

I've been using Meguiar's products since 1978 when I was 17 years old working on my 1948 Plymouth Coupe.

The first Meguiar's product I used was their paste cleaner/wax in a can just like the one pictured here,

Started using Meguiar's products about 2 years ago and haven't really gone anywhere else :bigups . Prior to that, I have absolutely no recollection of what I use to use, since I had only waxed a car twice before Meguiar's came along :xyxthumbs

A big 54 yrs for me. Used some Megs products many years ago. Even then heard they were the way to go. Using Megs exclusively since Sept. 2005. Very happy with products, support, forum, etc.

Jun 15th, 2006, 03:50 PM
Turned 30 yesterday. I've been using Meguiar's for about 14 years. I think the first product I used was the cleaner wax.

Jun 15th, 2006, 03:50 PM
I'm 21.

I've been using Meguiars on and off for around 5 years, but mostly in the last 2 years with Gold Class, DC and random shampoos, NXT, ect.

Within the past month I have bought so many products though, including the DA!

Jun 15th, 2006, 03:56 PM
18, ever sine I got my 2004 Ford Ranger on my 16th b-day ive been playing around with megs, it was NXT that finally won me over, I own other brands but megs did the most for me.

I will be 48 in ten years. What's Meguiars??

Jun 15th, 2006, 05:39 PM
21, first car, 95% Meguiars now. Just finishing the Kitten car wash before I switch to Gold Class, and due to availability, probably getting a Hitachi polisher instead of the PC.

Jun 15th, 2006, 05:55 PM
I'm 26 days from being 58 years young. I have been using Meguiars products for about eight years. I really got into detailing about two years ago. The Porter Cable 7336, along with Meguiars professional products and this forum, has enabled me to take my detailing to the next level.

Jun 15th, 2006, 06:20 PM
I rolled off the assembly line 31 years ago. I have been using Megs products since I was 12 when I was helping my father detail his 87 Mustang 5.0 LX. I fell off the boat once and only once and wish I never did (Z company) HAHAHA. This is by far the best stuff I have ever used.

Jun 15th, 2006, 06:52 PM
I am 40 years old and have been using Meguiars for about two years. Before that I was too much of a motor head to care about what wax I was using. But now that I have "matured" (lol) I have started to enjoy having a vehicle that turns heads because of how well it is detailed.
I use to want to build the engines for a NASCAR team, now I would like to polish the cars instead, the night races in particular.:)

I celebrated my 21st birthday a quarter of a century ago. I dabbled a bit with Meguiar's about 10 years ago but had company cars for many years so I didn't really care that much. Now with my own cars the detailing bug hit me pretty hard about 3 years ago and I migrated to almost 100% Meguiar's products less than a year ago.

I'm 17 years old. I've been into detailing ever since I got a new Truck and my license when I was 16. I've washed my parents cars before with turtle wax soap and sponge and dried with an absorber. I actually never wanted to take care of my truck though. Had the local carwash place do it and they did an okay job and the reason I didn't want to take care of my truck myself was because I thought I'd be too picky (turn car crazy). But, couldn't afford $27 dollar car washes every week after 3-4 months so I decided to start doing it myself. I got into meguiar's when I saw a bunch of old bottles of only Meguiar's products in my garage from my dad. Like the body scrub, cleaner wax, and quik wax. So I went onto Meguiars.com and saw the video on how to take care of a car. Browsed other brand sites before (mother's, turtle wax, zaino) but none were very helpful in teaching me how to take car of a car step by step. Went to the local autozone the next day and got the ultra plush wash mitt, GC car wash, water magnet, and GC wax w/ 2 5 gallon buckets from Lowes. I thought it was very fun washing my own car ever since and loved the wax. Soon after I got grit guards and the quik clay kit from meguiars.com
Been car crazy ever since and have been wanting to expand my knowledge about detailing.

Jun 15th, 2006, 07:45 PM

I've been using Meguiar's products for about a year now; on and off though. I've just recently found this forum and signed up and I'm glad I did. Through the experts on the forum, I've learnt so many things about car detailing that I would have never known otherwise. I'd like to thank all the mods and posters for sharing their "secrets". Also, Meguiar's rocks!:bow

46 here and soon to be 47, man did that go fast. Been using Meguiars three step for many years. Graduated to the Pro line and PC last year. Ready to take the rotary plunge in the very near future

Soon will be 64. I've been using Meguiars products since 1970.

Wow I feel like a kid. I'm 16 as of May 2. I've been using Meg's for about 6 months. I bought my truck when I was 15 and cleaned it with Armorall car wash, waxed with Turtle Wax, then got hooked on Meg's after I found this forum. Now I use it on my truck, and on the other vehicles I've detailed (Grand Prix GT, Gold Wing, Mazda 626, etc.) The turtle wax is sitting in the garage with dust on it lol.

I am 33. I started to use solely Meguiar's products since 2004. Upon searching more info in how to maintain my new car, I stumble in this site and the rest is history.

Ironically, my first experience with meguiar's product when I found an old bottle of liquid cleaner wax (late 80's marron bottle?) 10 years ago when I moved into a old house. I used it on my beloved college beater and believe it or not.... I did hate it because was too hard to remove. After that, I did not bothered to wax my old car.
With today's knowledge that I aquired here, I realized that I was applying way tooooo much wax thinking the more the better... :wall:

I'm 31 and have been using Meguiars since 2002. I was a frequent washer with a synthetic sponge, generic shampoo and a synthetic chamois. Then I was converted by the Deep Crystal System when my car's paint became oxidized. Now I'm Car Crazy with Meguiars' stuff. Now I realize how awesome my car can look week in and week out with a little maintenance.

For that reason alone I hope Meguiars never gets rid of the Deep Crystal line because I think it can be a stepping stone for many people into the "enthusiast detailer" category.

Jun 16th, 2006, 09:38 PM
ohh..im in the kindergarden group here....turning 19 in july
been using meguiars for about 5 month...and i love it :)

Jun 16th, 2006, 09:39 PM
Interesting that the MOL group skews slightly older than the autopia.org group . . . . I'm wondering if that's because us Meg's folks are less likely to be swayed by boutique product claims?

Jun 16th, 2006, 10:50 PM
Since Meguiar's advertising seems to be skewed towards the 13 to 21 year old import tuning crowd.......

When is the company going to come up with a line of products for vinyl graphics? Those cars are about 70% tape graphics and 30% paint!

I can just see Mike giving lessons on vinyl graphics care.

"The first thing you want to do is use painter's making tape to protect all the paint and clearcoat areas on the car."

 i am 67yo started "detailing" my cars 2 yrs ago and do neighbors and friends, usually for favors---watch my dog, fresh deep sea fish, fix a dent in my car ,etc---i don't think i have ever seen such a friendly and good exchange of ideas as this forum,to which i have read almost every wod for the past 2-3 yrs i have been asked how i get the cars better than new in appearance when i detail them----only a simple answer--- "hard work"---- it"s not nearly as hard as it was when i used the old simonize cleaner and paste wax as a 12-14yo to make rent money to help out at home---it is much easier now with all the new and specialized products and the improvements thru research and hands on offered by meguiars ----it is still a simple process ,and if i've learned anything over my lifetime, you have to: BUY QUALITY PRODUCTS-to work with and to put on your ride , to be consistent in your process of using them, and get something that works for you so that you can predict their performance. THANKS- for a most enjoyable FORMAT --- D

42 here, born in 1964. I got my first taste Meguiars back in 1980 using the #7/16 combo on my first car which was a 1978 Monte Carlo. I had a part time job working in a shop of large construction company. The guys who did the painting and body work sent me to this Mirror Glaze store and I ended up with the shiniest car in the neighborhood!

I am going to be 22 in late August. I started getting picky about they way my cars looked once I became a motorcycle washer/detailer at a Harley shop straight out of high school. I have since turned from just washing my car often to waxing. I just clayed, DC1, DC2, and topped with GC and my Grand Prix looks great. Wish I would have been this into detailing when I had my 1991 Buick Regal. Keep it up Meguiar's!!!!!

A young 23 year old, built 9th Feb 1983 - been using Meguiars products for some time (cannot remember excatly how long...), not long after they first arrived on UK shores. :)

I'm 30 for ten days more :)

While searching the web about three months ago, I stumbled across this site, and I just thought WOW - so much information, enthusiasm and knowledge gathered in one place! I'm really glad I found this site, I had never known there were communities like this around detailing, it’s great! Where I live there isn't much interest in detailing, and not much information to be found. But then it's so great that we have the web to share this hobby around the world :db:

Before finding MOL, I had never even heard of Meguiar's before (it's not a big brand over here). Now a few months later, I have myself a rotary, have had a lot of products shipped from the US, and am about to start my own detailing business :D

Jun 20th, 2006, 04:45 PM
Been using Meguiars products for some time. I think the first product I used was the Meguiars Compitition Car finish put it on the family car, was not old enough to drive yet. I think that was around 1964, I'll be 58 next month and have used MEG. products on all of my rides since then.:D

Jun 20th, 2006, 07:07 PM

Well thought I would chime in here... 27 and getting older :D

Have been using Meguiars since I had my first vehicle when I was 16. Now in the last 4 years I have been converted to an 'enthusiast' as I have a garage and that makes it easier to keep your vehicle looking good and I detail vehicles here and there for a little extra cash.

I would say I am now at 99% Meguiars product and couldn't be happier!

Thanks Meguiars

Have been using Meguiars for about 2 years now. It all started when I stumbled upon a detailing forum and started reading up on all the basics. Got pretty excited about it and was eager to do up my car... bought the DC System and a year later moved up to machine polishing. :)

I've been using Meguiars products since i became aware of them about 3 years ago. Prior to that i was using Zymol Titanium exclusively. Cant beat Megs though especially love the Quik Clay system, Color X and NXT Glass Cleaner. Got myself a G100 after reading about them on this site :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

Live 20 miles north east of London 39yrs old and just love detailing cars, mine, friends, neighbours etc. Gets a little scary when you start looking out for swirl marks on cars as you walk through the local supermarket car park.

Going to try to get to one of the Megs detailing days hopefully this summer in CA.

I`m 16 and I`ve been using Meguiars for three days. My 1986 4Runner hadn`t seen a wash in 6 months and a wax in 10 years when I found a bottle of the Deep Crystal car wash in the garage. I did a search on the company and found this. I also realized that on a 4Runner forum I`m on if you scroll down you come to all these neat threads on this crazy thing called detailing.:D I`ve owned the Runner for about 6 months so don`t think I`ve neglected it for years.

63 years old, retired high school teacher (history, law & economics).Three daughters, Ottawa, Palm Bay Florida & Danville Quebec. Had everything from a '46 Chrysler, 54 Pontiac, '67 MGB, '70 Charger & '74 Vette. I then had a transformation & became civilized??? Bought a '80 Lumina & when it died, my '02 Honda. When I bought the Honda last summer it was in such great shape I decided to spend my retired time by jumping in with both feet into the fun of detailing. Megs has made it so much easier & enjoyable. I spend about 8 hours a week on the car & am pleased by the comments from friends & neighbours. Winters are tough up here but it does get a thorough wash at the local spray booth once a week to get the salt off. Thanks for listening.

59, but my kids tell me I act like I'm pretty young for my age, been interested in cars since my first, which was my grandmothers 1938 OLds, with jumper seat in the back and a straight 8 under the hood, I got the car when I was a junior in high school many years ago, thinking about taking up detailing when I retire, since my wife tells me I spend most of my time in the garage any way, great forum and great products,

Mentally about 33 years old, body about 56 years of use. The first vehicle that I polished paint on was a John Deere pedal power [iron maybe] kids farm tractor – green machines were all we had on our farm. We sure could have used “Odor Eliminator” on the honey wagon which used a PTO drive to advance the goodies to the mechanically controlled flippers. When spreading the goodies you only have the wind at your back once and that is all it takes.:laughing :laughing

My name is Jim Stafford
I am 36 been using Meguiars products for over 20 years. Been collecting, working, building and detailing cars since I was 14 and have not stopped.
I have been lucky enough to turn my passion in to a part time job with Meguiars and have made some of the best freinds a person could ask for from Barry and Karen to the guys who do the shows each week and many others in so many departments
I am sure at some point it will become a full time job......it is already a full time passion

Late 40s....(okay, Tuesday it'll be 48), been using Meguiar's since I
started working in the automotive parts biz back in '79. Used the paste wax for my Challenger and Kawasaki....then on to other products as they became available (plus being in management, free samples was one of the perks!:D ). I have stuck with Meguiars since then, and now on my Coop'...NXT Tech wax is all that we use (and I am no longer in retail parts, so no free samples, alas I have to pay for it too:xyxthumbs )

Sep 4th, 2006, 10:05 PM
turned 36 last march.

a new meg convert, detail my own cars not so much for show but more to protect.

Wish that meg products r cheaper here in Malaysia, sometimes it can get prohibitively expensive. I think the sole distributor here is making a killing for a short term profit & would kill the brand in the long run

I've been using Meguiars products for over 10 years now, and swear by them. I've had numerous people try to sell me on this guy, or that guy's products, and my answer is-'I use Meguiars products, I'm happy with them, look at my cars, the results speak for themselves, and I have no desire to switch from something that works. Oh, and you don't stay in business over 100 years, by selling junk, so, like I said, I'll stick with Meguiars.' :)

Born February 3rd, 1969. Been using Meguiars off and on for the last few years. I now use Meguiars on a permanant basis (had to try others:confused: ) My Dodge Neon has never looked so good than when I clayed, cleaner wax then NXT'd it. That Orange Blast looks great, especially when my red headed wife is sitting in it :D

Oct 23rd, 2006, 07:21 PM
Got any pics of the Neon? I love that color.

Oct 25th, 2006, 06:22 PM
Got any pics of the Neon? I love that color.

Not the best pix, i was testing the camera, since that photo, I've clayed it, cleaner wax then NXT and it just looks great. Haven't taken a recent photo of it. My wife picked it out. We got the car brand new '05 for 9499 before taxes. A local chain of dealers had a huge sell out on them and we bought it in Fairfield.

I love the color, suprisingly the color doesn't show too much dirt.

The POS next to it is the teenagers car, a 1985 Nissan Sentra wagon. Won't pass smog so.....gonna sell it elsewhere, not worth fixing (mechanic said the cat is shot)

24 Years old

Have been using Meguiar's since I was 15, This was around the time of the Endurance Tire Gel debut.

I had my first car, a 1990 Ford Escort LX. Even though it was a hunk of junk, at least it was a pretty clean piece of junk.

I am currently working on starting my own mobile business and realize there's alot I don't know about this profession. It's more than just technique and clients. I feel I need to join a team first before I venture out on my own.

As you can see this is my first post but I’ve been hanging around here for a good while.
I’m 39 and been a car & truck nut my whole life. I have used various products over the years... mainly Zymol and Eagle One stuff over the last 10yrs until about a year or so ago I started using Meg’s all the way. I got a G100 recently and really enjoy using it. I don’t see myself ever changing again.

Apr 6th, 2007, 06:33 AM
I'm 23, about to turn 24...

I'm an active duty Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and just recently started getting into really taking care of my car

I used to just wash all my cars with laundry detergent cause I really didn't know any better and could really care less with the cheap cars I had growing up...

then I bought my baby, my 2003 Dark Shadow Gray Mach 1 Mustang and told myself I'd take better care of it now...since then I've been buying nothing but Meguiars car wash and products...and am now barely getting into the whole detail aspect of it...

bless the man who invented this stuff :)

When was that style can last produced? I recently came across one identical in a MC owners garage. I was working on his bike, and he proudly brought it out for me to use. I was skeptical to say the least, but he was just trying to help. Took the top off, removed a saturated and tattered piece of T-shirt. It was still moist, but had an AWFUL, NASTY smell.

I tried it as a "cleaner/dirt remover" of sorts on the lower most frame pieces.
WOW! It worked, super shiny. I did have to sacrifice a foam applicator, as the piece of T-shirt did not age so well as the wax.

Oh yeah, the smell dissipated from the bottom of the bike after an hour or so.

I'm only 16 but have really fallen in love with detailing. I've been taking care of my family's cars for years, but it wasn't until the past year or two that I truly developed a passion for it. Within that time, I've researched and learned sooooo much from Meguiar's and this online forum and have really developed an understanding of how to properly detail and maintain cars. I'm a 100% Meguiar's user and I owe them everything for getting me started in the world of detailing. I've tried other company's products, but nothing has ever matched the results I can achieve with Meguiars. Their incredible products and the success I've had with them is truly what has driven me to become so interested in car detailing and, for better or for worse, become car crazy.

While I'm posting this, I'd like to thank Mike Phillips for everything he has done for me. I'm a new member on these forums and only posted a few times, but I've been reading on here for months and I've seen your instructional videos and you have taught me so much in such a short amount of time. It's awesome that you're so passionate with your work that you're willing to take the time to teach your fellow detailers (like the guy detailing the Ferrari Fiorano 355 F1) and all of the car enthusiasts on here all of the things that you know and that you have learned from experience. You should be proud of what you've done for this industry and your teaching has been invaluable to me and I'm sure plenty of other people too. Thank you so much for all that you've done.

The chemists and engineers behind this product line really shows in the quality of the products - thanks much!

My first purchase was ScratchX, DC 123, GC liquid and Supreme Shine towels :)
Prices for Meg is insane in my country, so I import from the US.
I use Meguiar`s because I`ve never been disappointed in a product, which I find to be quite unique.

-And this forum gives me the opportunity to read and ask about the products.

Last 3 years I`ve been detailing for money. This year I`ve rented a garage, so I`ll be stepping it up a notch. This also means I can detail during the looong winters as well!

I love detailing with all the exitement and challenges it brings. Scottwax2

I am 26 years old and I have been using Meguiars since I was 17. It all started with the cleaner wax that I had found in a closet. (not sure how it got there) Ever since then I have been using Meguiars faithfully and cant get myself to try anything else. The more I have learned about Meguiars, the more I have fallen in love and know that I am using superior products.

I'm 36 and have been using Meguiar's for about 12 years now. Prior to that I used various products like Armor All for the interior and Turtle Wax for the exterior. I was never satisfied with the results. Then I picked up some Meguiar's wax just because I saw it there on the store shelf and wanted to try something new in hopes that it would work more to my liking. I have know idea why I chose Meguiar's at that time. I've been hooked ever since and am now using Meguiar's for about 95% of my detailing. It is the greatest stuff on earth!! :bigups

38.....Dedicated Megs user. I have tried it all before but nothing gives me results or comments like Meguiars does. Now all I have to do is find time to do my own car and stop doing everyone elses.

Well I am 40 now!(almost 41) And everything has pretty much stayed the same. I'm just 2 years older and a lot wiser due to reading the forum and keeping up with things.:doublethumbsup2

I'm 54 and started when my dad wanted help in waxing his 63 Impala SS using Meg's wax and that was in 63. I always use some of Meg's products and seen the changes done to them over the yrs. I was in the Military for 20 yrs and from there have seen Meg's products from Saigon to the Gulf area. I'm always looking for the perfect swirl free finish and the perfect shine that makes people think it's wet....:drool1

I am just 23 and an ex military guy, been detailing on and off for about 10 years and just recently started my own business after working for others but my idea of detailing wasn't the same as theirs if you know what i mean. Yes that means i started at 13. I was working for a close friends performance shop during my summers and school breaks cleaning and detailing the cars they worked on that varied from daily drivers to high dollar exotics. It was then that the owner taught me things that i still use today and introduced me to Meguiar's :doublethumbsup2.

I'm 34 been detailing on/off for about around 21yrs. started really pounding into it for about 13yrs. doing alot of high end private detail's mostly where the money is and alot less work sometimes' lol

I have had a chance to use many different products' some not made anymore and some i wish they would stop making lol from 1.00 waxes to 8,000.00 waxes hope to try the new 30,000.00 wax but don't know if that will ever happen cross my fingers'

I have used meguiars' for close to the 10-13yrs. and have seen many of the products' they have come and go but they alway's seem to get better whoo hoo hope to see more keep up the good work and keep passing it on from one gen to the next BARRY

I no way shape or form think i'm a pro detailer best of the best (((ok maybe a little lol))) as many claim to be i do what i like and i do it great an learn something new every day we all like to say and think we are the best but hey lets' be real no one is the best and not for long if they are it is a hobby and a passion for me and to detail some of the cars' people can only dream of and make some cash on the way is a great deal for me :xyxthumbs

May 27th, 2008, 01:19 AM

49 and getting back in shape:bounce Used to wash and clean my own car in my early 30's. Some 15 years later, owning a few vehicles at the moment, and with high gas prices, figured I'd save a few bucks washing them myself.

I'd like to attend one of Meguiar's detailing classes. My friend did and he has about the shiniest car in our small group.

I'm 57.75 and the Magistrate for the city of Mobile, Alabama. I worked in a car wash when I was 19-20 (1970) where I learned that we sprayed wax on your car whether you paid extra or not because it helped the wind machine dry the car.
I used to wax my cars occasionally using either Raindance, Simonize, or NuFinish. (Whatever was on sale).
I bought a new car in February of '07 and got on the internet to learn about washing my car when I noticed how swirled my brand new car was.
My knowledge and product purchases grew exponentially as my wallet shrunk. :)

51 and just getting into keeping my cars looking great.
Bought a 94 Honda Del sol about a year ago. Got it painted and noticed swiwls right away. It is black. Took it back and they got the majority of them out.
Started searching the web and found this site. So far I have about three hundred bucks worth of product, including a DA.
The swirls are gone, car looks awesome. Thanks to everyone here for the great info, and to Mag's for the great products.
The wifes car is next.

Hmm... I guess I hadn't reponded to this poll post previously so I'll do so now.

My name is Jason. I was 29 when I first joined this forum, 32 when this thread was started, and 34 currently.

I think I was one of the original members of this forum back in the beginning, as I was one of the 'ol gang that migrated over from Mike's showcargarage.com forum that preceeded Meguiar's Online.

Part of me still kinda misses that old small-town community feel the old forum had back in the day.

Knowing what I know about car care now, I just want to forget my last 13 years since I bought my first car and had no worry about waxing and cleaning......aarrrgh!

I'm Dave, 57 yrs old and have been using Mirror Glaze (especially H-7 glass bottle) since 1965. I started using it because my next door neighbor used it on his '61 Impala(and it always smelled like bananas). I was 14 yrs old at the time and had just purchased a '52 chevy, no engine, no interior, no title. To make a long story short I painted it in my Mom's basement with 27 coats of butternut yellow lac. and Hand rubbed it out after color sanding with 600 paper......it took me all summer.Scottwax2 No buffer in those days, at least not for me.

BTW.... What's happened to H-7, is it called something else now?:worship

I'm still an Old schooler , I need my lacquer and H-7 and I'm a happy camper. No thanks to the euros.....I know, I know.....but give me some black lacquer and H-7 and I'll show you depth that I haven't seen with the euros.
Ducking head....:poke

Enuff for now
