View Full Version : How Old Are You?

Jan 25th, 2010, 02:11 PM
I'm 44 years old and and have been detailing off and on for about 12 years. Recently I've been having problems with my knees and back. Am I starting to wonder if I'm just getting too old to continue detailing? How old are you?

I'm 57 and just got a car that needs my attention.

I am just a little over 6 years old... in dog years. I have been detailing mostly on my vehicles a few friends for just this past year. I did just received a $100 GC in the mail from a friend who's car I detailed while she parked it at my house rather then the airport. I did not want to be paid. I'd return it but I think that would be rude.

Though I'm pretty sure 57 is over 45:poke I would change it but I can't. Sorry.

I'm 31. Been detailing by hand for about nine years. Past year or so I have really been interested in learning easier and better ways to do things. I just ordered the new G110V2 last night from ADS. I had bought the older version from ebay a few months ago, but felt there was something wrong with it(some may remember the post). So, I never even got to try it out. In the past couple of months I have spent to the tune of $600 in Meg's products from all the lines to broaden my horizons. I CAN'T WAIT to use the DA. I have a new Ford Ranger in vista blue, and my wife has a BLACK Ford escape, which is in serious need of DE-SWIRLING. and, luckily I work at a dealership, so I can detail anytime, especially nice when it's 10 degrees outside!!!!Scottwax2

Hey big buffer

I feel you, my right knee and lower back pain too.

It helps me with heat to by back so I got a thermoskin (like a back support)that what else keeps your body heat traped in and it seams to help.

My last job was driving triple-7 rock trucks so man it helped me out some there.

And by the way 37

I only do the family cars, but that's one of the reasons I got a G100 a couple of years ago. It's so much easier on the aging joints and does a much better job than I could do by hand!

haha Yes it is my car, butttttt it doesn't look like that in real life... I photoshopped that a while ago to see what it could potentially look like after lowering it, adding lip kit all around, and 20 inch rims. Right now, it's bone stock...looks quite boring. :nervous1 Sorry for the tease man..! :poke lol

But YOUR car on the other hand is quite beautiful!! Love what you've done with the Z!! :xyxthumbs

Here's a larger pic of it tho -- even tho the add-ons are not real.. lol

I turned 66 last November and I have been detailing cars as a hobby since about 1961. I'm still passionate about how clean and shiny my cars are. Of course, years ago, cars weren't detailed.........they were just washed and waxed. Simoniz in the yellow can was my wax of choice back then. Here is a picture of me washing my car taken in 1966 or so.

I'm pretty suprised at the ages in the poll. Alot more senior guys than I thought:xyxthumbs.
I like hearing the stores guys. Pretty cool stuff. Kornercarver thats a cool pic to have. I use have one om "detailling" my Dads 1979 lil Red Wagon but lost it in a fire in 1990. i can still remember using good ol' Turtle wax on that thing. I had no idea back then that you could make money waxing cars lol. I thought the milkshake and burger I "earned" was an awsome payday! Wax on. Wax off.:D

I bought my first ever brand-new car 15 yrs ago, and that forced me into the detailing world (to keep it looking the same). Sold it 2 months ago (with 320,000km on the odometer - NOT a trailer queen). Here is a photo from 1 year ago (in typical weekend competition), and I still got two complements on how it looked (#26 over NXT) the weekend I sold it.

Im 67. Started detailing cars when I was 14 when I use to simonize my dads 1946 Dodge. When I was 17 I worked in a gas station were I did Lustre Seal jobs on customer cars, At age 21 I worked at a Pontiac dealership detailing used cars, new cars and buffing out new paint from the body shop. After that I just did detailing on the side. Now Im retired, but I work part time at a Toyota dealership , as a shuddle driver.

I am 61 and have been detailing or family and friends for 2 years. I have always kept my cars looking nice. In the early 70's I was using Blue Coral, the 2 step system, man was that a pain but it looked nice when you were done.
