Matte Paint Finish Protection / Waxing ?

I have a new Kawasaki ZX10R with Titanium paint. This is a matte eggshell clearcoat finish. What product(s) do I use to clean and protect this finish ? I want it to keep the matte finish.

Well im not to sure but a simple coat of sealant/wax of your choice for protection would sufice. I would treat it as any other paint. If the paint it self has a matte finish then your not going to produce the gloss were it wasnt intended. Just my opinion I am sure others with more experience will chime in. Hope that Helps Greg.

I've heard that waxing might turn the matte into a glossy finish. I want to preserve the current matte finish but seal it from the elements. Wondering what the best Meguiar's or other product might be to use ?

I am not going to be any help but I wondered the same thing the first time I saw a matte finish on a vehicle. Can you still use the traditional car care products?

Well if the paint is the matte finish and it is supose to be that way then i dont see why you couldnt use a normal wax on it. As far taking it off or turning it into a glossy finish im not sure. Sorry Greg.

Waxing won't make a matte finish glossy, but polishing with abrasives might or might not (depends on how they achieved the matte finish). In my experience, usually it'll stay matte.

I just finished waxing the satin black steel wheels I use on our MPV in the winter. They are now shiny, but not glossy, if you get the difference. They're still obviously not finished in "gloss paint".

There are waxes that produce less gloss than others.

NXT Wax is the most glossy, and I get lots of gloss with Gold Class Wax.
Perhaps you can try Meguiar's Color-X Wax or Meguiar's Deep Crystal Cleaner Wax. I have used Color-X, and the gloss and depth arent very high, so that might be what you want for a matte finish.

Is your paint a true clearcoat? Then regular polishing & waxing should be fine. As you are polishing the clearcoat & protecting(waxing) it. If the matte is in the CC then I would contact Kawasaki for an accurate description of the finish. Then go from there.

BMW has the M3 now available with Frozen Grey and Matte Black, you have to sign the warranty slip stating you will not wax or polish the vehicle.

Sorry guys, but it was out and out spam so we removed the post and banned the poster. You would be amazed at the number of spammers that register on this forum daily. Fortunately there are often tell tale signs in a users signup information that reveals them as a spammer before they can actually post (heck, sometimes we catch it before their registration process is fully completed!), but every now and then one gets through.

And for the record, we have no problems whatsoever with someone coming on MOL and discussion a competing product - we think we've made that point very clear time and time again. But if you come on here and try to hawk a competitors products, or even a non related companies products, you're facing immediate ban.

Unfortunately, sometimes deleting a post will break the continuity of a thread and we generally try to avoid that, but sometimes we can't.

For future ref-

Matte or Satin Finish Paint - if polished with traditional polishes the finish will become less matte and glossier over time; do not wet-sand or use conventional wax or use an automatic car wash that uses hot wax in the final rinse, as the flattening agents that cause the matte appearance will become ‘levelled ‘The textured finish is accomplished by a diffused 30 degree reflection and are retained very close to the clear coat surface. By levelling the surface the light will be reflected evenly and result in a ‘shine’.

Use a machine polisher and an ultra soft, zero abrasive cut (100 PPI) foam pad) with a mild chemical paint cleaner it will remove surface marring and leave it satin matte. Use a clear polymer, the key is to add surface protection and depth without adding gloss.

i have 2 bently's done in matte finish. swissvax makes products for matte paint. i do not know how they work.but they do not shine the finish at all.i required my clients to purchase them and they stay with the cars
