Re: Matte Paint Finish Protection / Waxing ?

Swisswax Opaque products for matte finish paint and vinyl wraps have been specifically developed (oil free) to ensure that they don’t change the appearance in matt paint or vinyl wraps.
    1. Wash surface with Swisswax (SV) Opaque Car Bath and a 100 % cotton pile SV Waschpudel
    2. Prior to 'wax' application the wrap needs to be totally free from oils and dirt. Clean all matte or wrapped surfaces with SV Opaque Pre-cleaner.
    3. Spray a 100% cotton micro fibre towel and apply to one panel at a time.
    4. Wipe off with a clean 100% cotton towel
    5. Apply SV Opaque Wax to one panel at a time, this 'wax' will provide depth without adding a shine
    6. Allow to dry for 10 minutes before buffing off and moving to the next section.
    7. After the 'wax' has out gassed and set-up, allow 2-3 hours and then buff the surface with a soft 100% cotton micro fibre towel
    8. Use Quick Finish Opaque as a quick detailer to remove finger marks and smudges

Are there any Meg's products we can use on matte paint? I have matte clear rally stripes on my 11 Camaro and need something.. I know about Swisswax but $$$$$ was hoping for something cheaper.

You can use any of our car wash soaps for starters, and then Ultimate Quik Detailer for routine maintenance and a bit of hydrophobic polymer protection. But any of our paint cleaners, compounds and polishes will start to add gloss to that finish so stay away from them.

Thanks Mike. I've been using Hyper Wash and just picked some UC, UP (thanks AutoZone) and UQD so it sounds like I'm good..

UQW is fine on matte vinyl wraps and as long as you don't over do it on matte paint it should be OK. But we caution with that because people tend to, for whatever reason, over use stuff. Remember, UQW will add gloss, and you may not want ANY added gloss to a matte finish. If you are going to use it, though, you should spray onto a folded towel and wipe on/off that way rather than spraying onto the surface first. You'll get a more uniform distribution this way.

LOL @ Tyler ! just saying
Swissvax has a product line especially developed for Matt paint finishes and film. Was developed a few years ago for Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce but works on all Matt finishes- Even includes a wax and a quick finisher to quickly and safely remove fingerprints and smudging etc.
Great products. and I think still the only manufacturer in the world to offer a complete Matt care and protection system

I use UQD on my 53 F100 which has a black matte finish with no clear coat. Works perfect everytime, leaves no altered shine. After detailing all day long as a profesion it's kinda nice just to be able to wipe and go...only the bright work and rims require that extra touch....No waxing, it's never needed, this was one of the various reasons we chose this motif.

BTW my son and I sprayed this 5 years ago in our garage after we performed a nice prep. Then using rattle cans and scotch brite pads in between coats we left a nice even black finish.

just bought a new CX-9 Mazda that has matte black door pillars. Greasy finger prints show up every time you grab the door getting out or closing it. What do you recommend for this exterior matte black paint to remove finger prints, etc that are constantly showing up ?

If you just mean plastic pillars, a spray detailer like Quick Detailer or Ultimate Detailer would be fine.

The plastic isnt as big a deal as paint.

Since tips like this is hard to find again, I will bookmark this thread under "Matte: paint and plastic." Thank you.

                                Hi indianoutlawrider,

Welcome to Meguiar's Online. Regarding Matte Paint, first, we do not recommend using any traditional liquid or paste waxes, or any compounds, polishes, or paint cleaners on a matte paint surface. You can wash with any Meguiar's Car Wash Solutions excluding our Wash Plus, even our wash & waxes are OK for matte paint. The wash & Wax will also provide added protection, but will not change the original appearance permanently. Our Ultimate Wash & Wax is our most premium. Any of our Quik Detailers Sprays are OK for light dust/fingerprint removal, particularily our Ultimate Quik Detailer would be recommended because of it's ability to provide added protection. We do approve the use of our Ultimate Quik Wax on matte paint as well. The above recommendations also apply to all types of vinyl wraps or decals, matte or glossy.

                                Hope this helps!
