  • Following 83 with 66?

I'm doing a swirl removal detail on my Grandmothers vehicle next week, and I was thinking instead of doing my usual 83, 80, 21, 21, I would go PC with 83, 66, and maybe a topper of 21.

I usually get a real good finish with 83, that 80 cleans up alittle. 66 should provide the same cleaning as 80, plus it lays down fillers and wax.

My question is, does 80 have the same swirl removal ability as 66, and since 66 lays down fillers, should the finish look better then 80?

If I remember 21 is a sealant. You won't want to use this after 66 b/c it contains carnauba.

Always apply a carnauba over sealant. Otherwise you'll have bonding issues when you go to put the sealant on.

If you want to use the sealant, get a pure carnauba like #26.

Well, #21 after #66 is fine.. nothing wrong there.

Well, to be fair, you have to look at the big picture, so you have to compare #66 +#21 to #80 +#21 + #21. In that case, I would give the edge to #80.

Now, if one just applied #80, and just applied #66, I dunno.

        80+21 would look better.

On dark paints M66 followed by M21 makes a HUGE difference--darkens and richens the paint.

I've done this to take advantage of the swirl filling properties of M66 on highly scratch sensitive paints.

#66 works well, but works REALLY WELL on dark colors.
If I were you, and was wondering about the differences in processes, I would tape off the hood of the car in question and give each process a shot if you have the time.
That way you can REALLY see the difference, and you will know for sure in your own mind for the next time.
Confidence makes a big difference in how much patience you have when working a product into the finish. In my own experience, if I have a lot of confidence that what I am doing is really going to make the end result great - it makes the work that much easier and more rewarding.

In my opinion, I would have to say that #83 topped with #66 will most likely give you the result you are looking for. Throw a layer of #21 or NXT on there and it will REALLY pop.

            Good luck.

EDIT: I now see that I am a fool, for this thread is a little old! Either way, maybe my info will help somebody!

Nope, not a fool at all. I, for one, thank you for effectively bumping this thread as I've been considering giving 66 a try but just sorta figured I had plenty of different options in my arsenal as is. I also have a dark graphite metallic car, so it looks like I'll be picking up that 66 sooner rather than later!

I've been experimenting with #83 followed with #66. So far so good, but I'm just learning the PC. Reading how many of the really knowledgeable guys here like 66, I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of it!

What about a bright white paint? My Yukon Denali has beautiful white paint (some very minor swirls if you look closely), but after reading this I'm not so sure about the M66 and M21. If M66 and 21 works great on dark colors, what would be the combination for a light color paint like white?
