I just wanted to say that I had a great time last night. I was amazed at how great my bumber turned out! Having Barry speak was a real treat as well. I also had some great car talk time with the others there and learned a lot, as usual. So thanks again Mike for another great weds. night open garage!

As always it was a great evening - learned a bit more, met some more cool car guys. What could be better?

Yes, having Barry sit and talk to us was great, a real treat, and a bit of one on one conversation after was even better, but for me the highlight of night was talking to Karen about driving fast! She is just too cool - about the Ford GT she said "ooooh, now that is fun to drive; you hit the gas and whoosh! it just shoves you back in the seat!" Brilliant!!!

I am so jealous. I think Meguiar's should open an east coast office so that I can attend one of these.

The weekend before this Open Garage we held a class for the National Corvette Restoration Society and Dick brought his 1969 Corvette Stingray to the class.

At the class Dick asked me to evaluate the finish and give him some recommendations for bringing the paint up to a little higher level.

First let me point out that at all of our detailing class we encourage people to inspect their car's finish in two kinds of light because some defects show up best in one kind of light while other kinds of defects show up in other kinds of light.

Dick's Corvette is a perfect example of why it's important to do this because when I looked at in last Saturday out in the sun it looked pretty good except for cobweb swirls.

When he pulled it into the garage it became very easy to see a mottling-effect in the surface of the paint from when it was repainted.

We did a Test Spot on one of the headlight buckets and found that we could remove this mottling effect using a cutting compound with a cutting pad on the rotary, but for now Dick attacked the swirls using M83 with our W-8006 foam polishing pad on the G100 and then re-polished with M80 and then applied M21. The results made the paint look wet and glossy. Dick purchased the G100 along with a lot of other Meguiar's product and plans on using a combination of the rotary buffer and the dual action polisher to take his Corvettes finish to its maximum potential!

Karen Meguiar and Dick talk cars but pause for a moment for a photo...

Here's Dick working out the swirls...

              Giving it a final wipe!

Nothing like a shiny 1969 Corvette Stingray with a 427 Big Block Chevy!

              He's outta here!

Although I'm in the Seattle area and probably won't ever make it to one of these (although I want to!), but I think it's really great that Barry and Karen Meguiar stopped by. To me, it really says a lot about Meguiar's as a company, which is one of the many reasons why I buy Meguiar products.
