Mike Lambert's The Shine Shop - Reisterstown, Maryland!

Well tomorrow's class is completely full with serious car enthusiasts from all around this area eager to learn more about detailing their cars with Meguiar's. After picking up the rental car and meeting up with Joe aka Mobilejoe, we headed over to Mike's Shine Shop to meet with Mike and do a little setting up for tomorrow's class.

Mike has converted his home garage into an effective and money making detail shop. One of the biggest problems Brick & Mortar Shop detailers have to overcome is reducing overhead. By converting his garage into his shop he's reduced his overhead and maximized his profits, plus he can work from home!

Here you can see how Mike has added 8" florescent tube lights to light-up the sides of the car so he can see what he's working on.

There's two more sets of 4 footers, (two tubes in each set), on the other side,

And both florescent lights, and halogen lamps, mounted to the ceiling.

I took a picture of a picture hanging on the wall in Mike's shop showing I think his dad from back in the day when he was detailing. Just goes to show the Passion for Perfection runs in the family!

Mike's shop is very nice, Mike has a huge following here in Maryland, he says for the most part he's booked solid about 2-years out. He also offers some very interesting services that I don't think a lot of people think about, I'll update the thread about this later as it's a little after 5:00am right now and I've got to pack up out of the hotel and get moving towards Mike's shop to set up for the day.

We had lots of rain and a Thunder Storm move through last night, hopefully it will be clear and sunny for today's class. I'll try to post a few pictures before the class starts!

Just got back from the Reisterstown class and it ROCKED!!!

Mike Phillips did an excellent job of teaching us the history of Meguiars and techniques for getting rich (color) reflection.

They actually used my Murano as the guinea pig. I didn't mind at all. I knew it was in safe hands, and it was. The left side of my hood is SWEET. I have to work on the rest of the body.

Im finally going to use my polisher I got for Xmas. I was waiting to get educated properly on it before I started using it. Thanks Mike Phillips!

Thanks to Mike L. from the Shine Shop, nice garage. Thanks Mobile Joe, your advice also helped out... I got some goodies too! Thanks Jeff Smith for being the squeaky wheel.

Im going to have to buy some of the products shown today that I dont have yet.

Diffinitely worth missing work/school over. Dont miss any classes that come to your town.

Fantastic class! Answered a lot of questions and cleared up some hazy parts as far as which product for what job ... and how to pick which product for what job.

We need more of these out here on the East Coast!

I hope everyone has a chance to attend one of these sometime.

Mike, Mike, and Joe -- much thanks! You guys rock!

What can I add? The Shine Shop was rocking and the information was on super overload.

Mike L and his lovely wife Layna were the gracious host and hostess allowing us to come into their garage and home for the day.

A BIG THANK YOU to Joe for making sure everyone was well taking care of during the event.

Jeff I also want to thank you for not only your help getting the class in MARYLAND but for sending me an e-mail advising me of the class.

What Can I say about Mike Phillips other than another BIG THANK YOU for showing us how detailing it is really done. You could tell that he has probably forgotten more than what most detailer know. He was a wealth of information on the history of Meguiar’s and their current product line. Mike just made it look so easy but I know there is a lot to learn about proper technique and product use. When we practiced on a beat up junk yard hood the transformation was amazing. MEGUIARS products rock!!!!!

I can truthfully say that I have not used the Meguiar’s line of car care products but I will be buying some of the polishing compounds next week. Thanks Joe for the tip on where to purchase the products!

If you have a chance to attend one of these classes you should do yourself a favor and attend. I learned a lot I did not know, how to correct mistakes I was, past tense after today, making and a validation on the proper use and techniques I am currently using.

A great time was had by all.

For Mike Phillips and Mequirs company:

I had the most respect on how you came to doing these awesome car care classes.

Mike Phillips put on a great class and helped not just me but others as well (at our class and hopefully others that attended his classes) on how to really take care of your vehicle(s). Now all I need is to buy the items and keep using them day after day.

Mike and Layna thanks for the comfort of The Shine Shop. Joe thanks for the help. Lastly Mike Phillips (Internet Technical Specialist) << I think he needs a better name, thanks for all the information and intruducing me and others a good way to use all the products and systems.

Mike and Mequirs keep on with the classes and never stop.

Yep I just goto my shop in Essex, and I have to say that this class was awsome. I had a decent grasp of what I wanted, but I need to tweak my technique a bit ( arm speed, how the product looks when its done actualy working ).

Everything was great Joe, Mike P, Mike and HIs wife thanks for letting us into your house Hey and no escaped critters !

If you have the chance to make one of these you should, I was kinda surprised that I was the furthest away attending this one, only 75 miles and change.

Thanks to Meguiar's for sending Mike out to teach us, and for the very nice goodie bags for those attending the class.

                      Cant wait for dinner !

The Detailing 101 class presented by Mike Phillips of Meguiar's Inc. was truly educational, organized and rewarding. Mike is a first class professional who is compassionate about his art (paint specialist). Reading literature in the books and on this forum just is no substitute for the first rate delivery that Mike brings to his craft.

I now know what I must do to address the bird etching that was left on my "red corvette" right behind the rear emblem. Just the knowledge I gained from today's class will enable me to resolve this issue.

The proprietors of the "The Shine Shop," Mike and Layna Lambert were gracious hosts, and Mike's converted garage is first rate. It was evident that he is big on Meguiar's.

Finally, I would like to thank MobileJoe and Jeff Smith for getting this going.

I'll be waiting for another one at some point down the road!!

Maybe you could make the Sunday class!

This is one opportunity you really did not want to miss. Mike's garage was really laid out and he used the available space well. I got a lot of ideas for my garage set up from him. The tile floor is to die for. I really nice job and he did the work himself.
