Im sure there are plenty of threads about this, but i cant find them. What is the best way to clean and dress an engine? I went to a local car wash and all they did was spray some shiny grease on it and it now looks worse than it did.

the best way to clean your engine is to do it yourself!
start the engine and let if idle for around 30 secs. shut the engine off.
then cover everything that needs to be covered. I cover the alternator, distributor, fuse box(es), the battery and air filters with plastic wrap.
then hose down the sides of the car with water.
spray you APC or degreaser liberally around the engine.
let it sit for 15-20 seconds, then start brushing the dirtier areas
hose of the engine, but don't use a pressure nozzle
then spray your dressing on, wait a few mins and wipe off the excess with a microfiber towel or a rag.
