  • Is this car a Ferrari OR Fiat?!

My cousin recently bought a new convertible. It is a 1984 model, but I am confused about what exactly it is.

On the trunk lid it has the word "Ferrari" in chrome. Below, next to the passenger-side tail light, there is a chrome badge that says "2000 fuel injection".

On the front fenders, on both sides, there is a "Ferrari-type" decal that is yellow, with a black horse. On either side of the horse, there are the letters "S" and "F". On the bottom of the front fenders, on both sides, is a chrome badge that say "Pininferina" (I think I spelled it wrong).

My cousin says that this car is a Fiat. Is this car a Fiat with a Ferrari body...OR what?

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to post.

    Thanks in advance!

    Does it look like this?

If so it’s a Fiat 124 Spider and some idiot glued Ferrari badges on it.

Technically, 1984 would be called a “Pininfarina Spider.” After Fiat pulled out of the US market in ’83 Malcolm Bricklin continued to import the cars. As Pininfarina had styled the 124 and fabricated the coachwork it was natural to simply call it that.

There is a “family relationship” to Ferrari. The Motor is a marvelous 2 liter DOHC piece designed by Aurelio Lampredi, who had designed V12 road and race engines for Ferrari. The majority of Ferrari’s road cars have been bodied by Pininfarina.
