Both are currently in production. Top Gear has Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, The Stig, a star in a reasonbly priced car, a live studio audience in a hanger, and new this year, Top Gear dog. Who basically just sits there looking all wooly and dog like.

Fifth Gear has Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato (current British Touring Car driver), Tom Ford doing everyday type car tests, and Jon Bentley doing consumer related stories.

What we get here in the USA is a heavily edited and Americanized version of Top Gear (no star in a reasonbly priced car) occassionaly on TLC, and old repeats of the half hour format of Fifth Gear on Speed.

I've only seen a couple episodes of Overhaulin, but it seems like a good show. I've never seen the other shows some of you mentioned, so I can't comment on those. On Overhaulin, it was nice to see that they seemed to do everything right, it wasn't just a new paint job with a popcorn machine on the dash like Pimp My Ride, but they even drop in new engines and such. Yes, the rims seemed to not fit with the cars they were putting them on, but as someone else said, they're interchangable, no big deal.

My one complaint is they did some major league baseball player's car (I think it was a Pontiac convertable). First of all, that guy probably has plenty of money to drop in his own car, he doesn't need Chip Foose to steal it for a week and make it over for free. I prefer when they stick to the "hard luck" stories... the guys that absolutely love the car, but they can't afford to fix them up at this point in their lives, etc. Another thing abou the baseball player episode, was the car they made over was VERY clean to begin with. They didn't show the car in great detail, but it definitely wasn't a rust bucket, and it looked like it had original paint. I'd rather have a clean, original paint and interior car than a newly made over show car. The car would have looked great if someone would have detailed it up. IMO that would have been the better way to go, rather than totally ruining an original convertible.

A couple of guys from Red Deer here in Alberta worked on the show ( Installation Station) for the audio part. They did 2 cars with Foose. In a news paper artical they said Chip was very nice guy ( I'm sure he is) but they would'nt drive the cars very far if it was theirs. They may look complete but they still need work when the shows over.
I like the show for the most part but I do find that the cars are starting to be built the same way over and over.

Yes, being pressed for time and doing everything they do in a few days, its obvious they rush things. Also, when they don't even start the car until about an hour before the owner shows up, you know its not going to be perfect. My friend's dad and I were talking about it, wondering if they keep it for a couple extra days to work out the kinks and do a few more little things or if they just give them to the owner and call it a day.

I don't think they could just call an incomplete project a day, especially considering the upped maintenance costs of having a 'show' car. I don't know, from the episodes I've seen online, I think I'd rather see the projects done properly, even if it does take more than one episode.

I'd prefer a show more like: "This week, we'll be installing the new engine in the Mustang, and showing you how to get the most out of your wax coat." More Better Homes and Gardens, less Backyard Blitz.

I'll try and google up the American equivalent, but I hope you get what I mean there.

That was bicycle racer Lance Armstrong's car. I think he has enough ,money to do it himself. So does his girlfriend Sheryl Crow.

By the way, nobody outside this forum would believe it coould take 7 days to detail a car. It would make lousy, boring TV!

This was a different episode. The car was owned by some MLB player and his Charlie Sheen was a good friend of his (he helped with the prank). I agree, a show about a 7 day detail would be very boring. My main point is, it didn't even need to be on the show. Save the money and expense for some guy that deserves it. There are plenty of good people out there with some bad luck that would love to have their cars made over, and I'm sure the audience appreciates that more than fixing up some celebrity's car. When they do that it feels like the Acadamy Awards, its just rich and famous people giving eachother gifts that they don't really deserve.

I have watched 85% of the episodes, and I like it. The one I liked the best was when they built the NAPA S10 and the 65 El Camino(I know, I'm biased). A lot of the shows have been people who have a car they inherited and couldn't afford to restore. The one that was the most emotionally touching for me was when they did a pro street Mustang for a guy in a wheelchair. Not only did they do the car, they gave him a new ultralite wheelchair. Where can you watch Top Gear on the web? I have seen a couple of episodes and kind of liked it.

Then again, there was the episode where Overhaulin' lightly modded a new 2005 Mustang for a nurse.

Neither nurse or her husband were car people. I remember watch Chip show his drawings to the husband only to have him say that his wife didn't like Chip's trademark paint scheme.

The whole show was an ad for Foose's Mustang project. They just duplicated the Unique Performance / Foose Mustang (Stallion).

Except for the paint, I could have done the car in my garage. They just bolted on a few parts. Plus they only painted part of the car. This episode was the show's nadir.

/\ that car ended up on ebay shortly after too...

I dunno-the one that killed it for me was when the decided the car wasn't worth saving, and redid another car for the owner instead.

Plus they only do it on the west coast.

Kinda an upscale pimp my ride, imo. In a way I wish one of our projects would end up there, it would def excelarate the process for us!!

What about the one show where a guy saved his fathers car after the father died, and the car reminded him of the good times this guy had with his father. Well after Overhaulin got a hold of it they made it beautiful, but it was no longer his fathers car.
