You did the best you could with it. On past cars I've worked on, I've found that a PC or rotary and M80 followed by NXT Metal Polysh works great.

But it doesn't always work out well, and the chrome wasn't in the best condition for perfect restoration.

I was blown to see with my own eyes the results of applying #7. No matter how the paint was cleaned, it had a hint of haze. After applying and removing #7, the paint just got richer and deeper
I wished that I could made some of the crome items shine more but overall I am happy.

This was my first Wednesday night at Meguiar's and it sure was fun meeting everyone. Nothing better than spending an evening with car nuts.

It was fun working on the Datsun, as Mike P. commented they should have never changed the name of that company. My job on the car entailed claying the car, cleaning, polishing, and shining the tires. The rest of the group seemed to have a handle on the rest of the car.

There was some sharp looking Honda S2000's in the house, one white and one silver, and both owner's seemed to be getting the results they desired. I didn't get the name of the machine, but one of them had a dual machine that was both a PC/rotary with a flick of a switch and was quite pleased with it. Maybe somebody good help me out with the name of it.

The reason I came down from Thousand Oaks, was to bring out my new rotary machine. I had played with it a little at home with some other products, specifically Optimum Hyper Compound, but it wasn't doing what I had expected after talking to Mike P. on the Phone.

After setting up my red (PRACTICE) bumper on a stand, and setting up my rotary with Meguiar backing plates pads, and compounds, I asked Mike to show me some techniques on how to use a rotary and specifically how to burn paint. Right as Mike is burning the Paint, blistering and smoke, Barry Meguiar just happens to walk over and asks what is going on. Of course , Mike explains what is going. For me it was interesting. It showed that the Meguiars products made the rotary work just the way people said it would. It's definitely a real tool, and not to be taken lightly. After practicing awhile, I let anyone else try it out whoever wanted too. Some people thought it burned paint quick and others didn't. I think everyone had a good time just trying a new toy, but nobody offered up their car to practice on , probably for good reason.

Mike offered some great advice on how to get some great practice before going full bore on cars. (head to junk yard , use beater cars, get more spare body panels speciically hoods, & get your oops out of the way)

It was a great night. I want to thank Mike for taking the time to help me during a busy night. I know I bent Richard's ear (Octane) for lot's of tips, and they were much appreciated, and Barry Meguiar for facilitating this whole process. It was a great group of people, I just wished I lived closer so I could come more often.

      Thanks for a good time

      Doug

        Hey Doug,
Ohhhhh, so that's what all of you were doing around that bumper! I would have taken a try as well had I known what everyone was playing! LOL

Really glad you made it out and got a chance to chat with you.

          Arrrrrgh!

The one Wednesday night in weeks that I’m committed to family activities turns out to be the night to shine up a great classic roadster, try burning paint off a practice bumper and hang out with Barry!

Great job guys! Hope I can be around next time.

Another great event hosted by Meguiars.

I got to work on a very interesting car, meet some new awesome people and see some old friends. Oh yeah, had a great conversation with Barry.

It was a great evening and I think Karen was pretty pleased with her car.

Car came out really well. Was that the original paint on the vehicle?

I knew there had to be a good reason for your absence Paul. I kept thinking "man, Paul would really love to be part of this one!!" and wondering where you were.

Thanks for letting some of us play with the rotary too, Doug!! I'm not as intimidated now, but obviously 5 minutes of playing with a rotary in very low light isn't enough to make me run out and buy one! Time will tell.
