You guys ever hear of this...???

Well, I'm detailing my car.

Today, I was outside with my brother in law while he was washing his truck. Then, a good neighbor of mine calls me over.

So I walk over and he says, "Do you want to know what I keep my car looking good with?"

Out of detailers curiosity, I responded, "Sure."

So he showed me this. It's called Butter Wax and its made by a company called Car Brite.

Ever hear of it?







Then he went on to tell me that it only needs to be applied every 6 months. Twice a year, because its that good.

As he continued, he also told me that he never uses soap when he washes his car, just plain crystal water. Sounds like that M5 guy hehe.

He offered it to me to try, and I accepted. He also said, apply it with a wet rag and take off with a shirt, no towels, a shirt.

So I came home and made this thread.

What do you guys think?

I might not try it now since I've only done half my car with 83 and my g100. But he said to use a little bit and that it'll sure make a difference. I'm going to pour just a little into a container and keep it.

I don't think I'll try it, I'm loyal to Meguiars, but if I do, it'll be in one conspicuous area.

Probably peels off like plastic in a few weeks.

I'll stick what works for me and use it often.

I worked with one of the "redbook" firefighters ( now retired for 16 years) who told me I was wasting my time and money buying Meguiar's and other quailty detailing supplies...

He used dish detergent and an old sponge to wash his car and lemon Pledge and an old towel to wax it.... "Once a week with a can of Pledge and it shines"

and it looked like ****... swirl city...

Car Brite products are made in Indianapolis. Butter Wax was/is not known for being very durable. Butter Wax was available as early as 1986, but may have been reformulated over the years. A local detailer who used Meguiars tested it against #26 and the #26 came out ahead in gloss and durability.

When they first came out with it, they were selling primarily to car dealers and detailers. Just FYI.

Thats what a local car dealership used when i worked there. Some of the things we did there make me want to cry. Poor, poor corvettes.

Sounds like a good idea, but he felt pretty convinced his methods worked.

Maybe I can use the same line he used on me, on him...

I tend to just stay away from people that have their own ways. Some people may not want your advice. Which always seems to be the people I talk to?

I would use it... on that counter top, it might restore some gloss, but on second thought I will stick to colourX followed by M20 for my cultured marble counter tops

a local shop here uses car brite products with some pretty good results, i respect their stuff
i think the only thing wrong here is that guys methods, i think you need to knock a little common sense into the guys head
for one thing rags are much coarser than foam, doesnt take an idiot to figure that one out. why would you put ANYTHING on your car thats even the slightest bit coarse?
show him the swirls and then show him your car.. a lot of people ive met are absolutely convinced that swirls are natural and a part of every cars paint
