When I woke yesterday morning, I decided that there was no time like the present to use my new polisher for the first time. Here's the process I followed....
Now I can hear everyone saying that that looks great, but let me reassure you that it might look good, but that's because there's NO direct sunlight.
To show you what I mean, I then pulled the car into the garage and turned on my 500W Halogen lamp. Look at this...
See what I mean
Apologies for the lengthy post, but I guess the first time is always special.

- I cleaned the mags using Meguiars Hot Rims product
- Washed the car using the two-bucket method with Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo and Chenile Mitts
- Dried the car using Meguiars Water Magnet
- Applied Meguiars Hot Shine Tyre Spray
- ..and the result

- I then clayed the car using Meguiars Professional Mild Clay and Quik Detailer
- I then tested a panel using Meguiars Speed Glaze (#80) and my new Makita BO6040 DA polisher and Meguiars W8006 Polishing Pad. Here are the results...
Before
After
- After taping all the exposed areas, I then applied #80 to the entire car. Absolutely amazing product. It removed all the swirls. This took me a couple of hours, but well worth it
- I then applied a coat of Gold Glass Liquid Wax using the polisher and Meguiars W9006 Finishing Pad. This was so much easier and quicker than applying the wax by hand.
- After about 20 minutes I removed the dried wax with a couple of microfibre towels. I don't have the means at the moment, but I'll buy the microfibre bonnet and W7006 pad later.
- The waxing step went so much quicker than expected, that I gave the car another coat of wax.
- And the results...
