Motor Oil Prices - getting higher and higher?

Well.... I fill my truck with Mobil 1 5W20. I keep a close eye on the price so I know when to get some and save a little $$$ (always get it at walmart, seems the best price). When I did my first oil change 2 1/2 years ago Mobil 1 was $4 something a quart, now its up to 5.98. Are they crazy? I know its a good oil but I am about to change to something else. you would think a synthetic would have an advantage over your standard oil when crude oil prices are high.

Yeah I noticed that too. BIL has a new Jeep Liberty it takes 0w40!
Synthetic. Check out Wal marts Super Tech Syn. It's good stuff.
Syn also are made from petrol byproducts I believe. Could be wring.

I use the same stuff in my ZX2. I use 4.5 quarts per oil change and it adds up. I thought about switching to Castrol Full Synthetic, but I have heard good things about the Mobile 1 Full Syn. oils.

Mobil 1 is $5.69 a quart here. It was on sale last week for $4.39 so I picked
up 3 cases. I've been using it for more than 20 years. Just like Meguiar's
products, if I find something that works well I become a loyal customer.
I'm pretty sure synthetics start out as crude. I hope you find as suitable
replacement gb387.

I guess I assumed synthetic oils were totally man made, but you guys are probably right.

You know not really sure there is a good replacement, I am kind of the same way, '...if I find something that works well I become a loyal customer'. The more I think about it, the more I think its good insurance and 5.98 isn't all that bad if it works and works well.

I did notice a slight difference when I changed to Mobil 1, might have been in my head but my truck seemed to run just a little smoother and my temp gauge was a little lower as well(as much as I can tell from the crappy Ford temp gauge).

Yeah, the temp. gauges in Fords always sucked. I would have better luck using a baby thermometer on the engine block than what the gauges read.

at Farm & Fleet. I don't know if there is one around you, but the sale

None in my area but my parents live about a mile from one in Minnesota. My dad likes to shop there, it will give him an excuse to go there. I will have to see if he can find the same deal there, if not now keep his eyes open.

In todays paper Advance Auto Parts has Mobil1 for 5.38. All weights.

Well, I usually fill mine up with Mobil 1. This week our O'reilly Auto has the 5000 and 7500 mile formulas on sale for $1.99 a quart. No joke here!

Ouch! The oil for your car and my Ford ZX2 are same from Mobile 1, but it doesn't cost that much. Of course, the price is going to be higher since you live in Canada.

where i used to work it was 8.98/QT

it not cheap stuff, and Mobil1 doesn't make an extended preformance 5W-20

i am thinking about swithing to AMSOIL
