  • Most common misspelled words on this discussion forum...

    Hi everyone,

Just for fun, here's a thread with some of the most common misspelled words used on a daily basis on this forum and every forum, maybe this will help, but remember it's just for fun...

One of the most common misspelled words we see is this one, alot

It's actually supposed to be spelled as two words, for example: a lot

If you use the words a lot often in your writing, (Or a lot in your writing), now you can be confident as to how to correctly spell the words.

Another one funny enough is Meguiar's! Can't even think of how may ways we've seen this one spelled over the years.

Re: Most common mispelled words on this discussion forum...

Is it possible that the word "mispelled" in the title of this thread is misspelled?

One that is somewhat similar to the "alot" misspelling is "noone". another case where it should be two words. The fact that we tend to pronounce a lot and no one as one word probably contributes to the misspelling of them.

Actually, I think the correct spelling IS mispelled. I can't remember for sure though.

Yeah "no one" is commonly mispelled. I always think the person is saying "noon" when I see it spelled that way.

Another one I see a lot is usualy. Of course "their", "there", and "they're" seem to be used improperly often. Same for "right" and "write".

Whoops! We posted this and then sped out the door to get to the post office before the lunch crowd sent the line around the block! For some reason, spell check doesn't always check the Subject Title?

              It's fixed now!

Here's another one this write misspells all the time,

              everytime

It's two words, not one word, as in every time we type the words every time we always type them as one word and then correct the mistake when we run spell check.

Of course there's always, to too and two and your and you're and their, there and they're

Whenever we're not sure, the fastest thing to do is to type the word into Google and see what it does, in this case we typed in the word mispelled and it corrected us with misspelled.

The most commonly misused word I see is "loose" when the person actually means "lose". "Loose" is the opposite of tight, "Lose" is the opposite of win.

I've never seen anyone actually loose a race, or loose the shine off their paint because they didn't wax it. I have seen them lose both, however.

Your English is a whole lot better than my Dutch. I don’t care if your spelling or grammar aren’t perfect. I’m just happy that guys like you are willing to join in. It’s got to be difficult. Thanks for putting in the effort.

Lol. I would have spell checked misspell, but I was at work and loading pages on a 28.8 kb connection is a drag.

Another common one is "congradulations" (congratulations).

How about "purusal" (perusal)? Ok, ok, I've only seen that misspelled once, and that was by Mike. I just thought it was kind of funny.

My far too common examples would be:

your - instead of you are/you're (in this context, of course)
                          caranuba/carnuba - instead of carnauba
                          definately - definitely
                          rotory - rotary
                          sealent - sealant
                          plasticy - plasticky
there - their/they're/they are (again in this context)
                          burgandy - burgundy
                          cinimon - cinnamon
                          door jams - door jambs
                          dissapointed - disappointed

                          etc., etc.

...and the Meg's versions are always funny: Mequires, Meguires, Mequairs, Maguires, MacGuires...

Other brands too, are challenging for certain people (entertaining for us ), but I'm not sure we could mention them here.
