  • Quick Question........

Ok, I have an appointment to have my truck buffed out by a local detailer provided I clean it up beforehand.

It is black paint, of course.

My plans are to wash and clay bar the day before. My Q is what else can I do in that timespan (Step 2 paint cleaner? ColorX?)

Can a better result be achieved if either of the two above product are applied by machine rather than by hand?

    TIA

    Re: Quick Question........

Well, if he is a good detailer, washing and clay should be all it needs...

Wait a second - the detailer wants you to wash, clay and paint clean before he does anything? That seems sort of odd to me, or am I alone in this thinking?

I mean, isn't all that part of what you pay a detailer to do?

        Re: Quick Question........

Most REAL detailers would want to wash and clay the car to make sure it was done right. REAL detailers are OCD. Have you talked to him about what products (pads and polishes) he will be using to "fix" your car?

to me it just seems kind of odd a detailer would ask you to wash n clay your automobile .The things that make you go Hmmmmmmm.............

How much are you paying this guy? You are halfway there if you have to wash it and clay it, save some money and finish it yourself
As the others have stated its sounds very odd.

Sorry, let me clarify it a little more. The guy is a family friend and he buffs/polishes cars as a side job. He has done my truck before and did a really good job. The job will be a "birthday present" for me this week. Im sure he would do all the prepping for me but I honestly I was wanting to be a part of the work.

If he is good with a PC, etc, make sure to watch, even try getting your hands on as well then.

Well first off HAPPY BIRTHDAY If you think it needs a paint cleaner, go for it as it won't hurt
