  • About prices in Sweden ....Meguiars???

I Was wondering why prices is 3 times more than in Usa for meguiars products... like NXT Generation

Re: About prices in Sweden ....Meguiars???

We've been told that it's because in order to bring products into other countries, there are often times,
    • Brokerage fees
    • Duties
    • Taxes
    • VAT taxes
    • And other fees that each country's Government charges
Do you know all of the different charges and fees your Government charges any type of business to import products for resale? If no, perhaps you could look into this and share with the forum? Also, the type of Government your country has can also have an effect, as in a capitalistic structure versus a socialist structure. The U.S.A. operates under a capitalistic structure but we still pay huge amounts of our income into taxes, we can only imagine that people in non capitalistic countries must pay more of their income to the Government?

Besides what your Government charges legitimate businesses, the business itself must invest their own money into importing and shipping case quantities into your country, this would include trucking and/or train shipping costs to get pallets of products from a ship to a warehouse. Then there's the cost of the overhead for a warehouse. If the company has employees and the employees work for money, then the company has to pay them wages and that has to come from somewhere. Then there's the light bill for the warehouse and the offices, maybe theirs a phone bill, and all of the other costs involved in setting up and running a business so that people can walk into a retail store and pick up a bottle of product and walk it over to the counter for purchase.

And of course the business owner has to cover his costs and make a profit or they wouldn't be in business for very long. My guess is that importing a premium product like Meguiar's in volume into a country separated by an ocean from the manufacture requires a substantial investment.

    Just a guess...

How much can you bring back from your visit to California? (You could spread it around your group of 11 travelers.)

Re: About prices in Sweden ....Meguiars???

That's the reason I order the majority of Meg's from the US.
Here in The Netherlands prices are 2-3-4 times the price in the states.

The problem is the guy who does the importing decides the prices.
He's operating on his own, meaning he has to pay everything for himself ( magazines, commercial, all the costs you make if you have a company of your own) But I'm not willing to pay 3-4 times the price I can buy it in the US. And he get's the products even cheaper. Even with the shipping costs added I can save $150-$200 on a $400 order.

I'm not an idiot you know...

Re: About prices in Sweden ....Meguiars???

I used to wonder the same thing. (You can check my post history and see. lol) Until I got into the business side of it and now I know why.

For example just today I received some detailing products in from the USA (microfiber towels) which in euros I spent about 1700 for the order. Just in taxes and customs agent fees I paid another 700 euros, agent charged me about 75 euros, so rest is taxes. That just made the product about 43% more expensive, and that was just to get it out of customs, not counting other business expenses such as shipping, office space, employees, marketing, reshipping to customers which you have expense of shipping materials like boxes, shipping peanuts, tape for boxes etc etc etc.

In the end the reseller of a product in europe ends up making the same or less profit as a reseller in the USA does. Except with a lot more work involved in getting the product into Europe and alot more headaches involved. In the USA a reseller calls the dsitributor, makes the order and has it at his door in a couple of days. To get it to Europe you have a logistics headache and then customs. lol

When we look at it from a customer point of view, like I did before, and see the product 3 times more than it is in the USA we are like WTF??? but once you analize all the costs involved in getting the product in your hands here in Europe you will understand.

Sure you can try and get it here yourself, but shipping gets expensive. Besides you should support your local businesses and the EC, we have enough jobs leaving Europe already. lol

Thanks for posting this first-hand experience.

Recently I read a post where the person complained about the price of a product, I looked at their profile and in it they said they are studying business in college and when they get out they want to start their own business.

What they are going to find out is that in order to stay in business, they are going to have to do good business, good business means making a profit, bad business of course being not making a profit. Kind of the nutshell version of Business 101

But it was interesting to see their mindset, on one hand they want their stuff cheap, yet on the other hand they want their own business. When they get their own business they find out that some people want their stuff cheap, but if they sell their stuff cheap, or too cheap, they won't make a profit and they'll go out of business. You can't have it both ways. The people in business take risk and their reward is called profit, no profit no business.

Convoluted thinking, hopefully he'll figure this out while he's learning about it in college.
