keep paint cleaner and polish off black plastic?

When you use a cleaner and a polisher (like DC1 then DC2), should you keep them off of black plastic trim? Obviously you need to keep the wax off of the trim, but I don't know if DC1/DC2 have the same bad effect on plastic as wax does.

That should not have the same white residue that wax would leave behind, but you still want to try and keep it off of the plastic.
