Did anyone snag any pictures of the straightline scratches where we were working them out on the front of the hood?

      So here's the story...

Jackie used a traditional rubbing compound to try to remove some minor defects out of the paint on a section in the front of her Nash Metropolitan. She didn't understand how the abrasives in these types of product while they may remove defects out of the paint they leave behind their own defects because the abrasives are hard and sharp and don't break down.

      Perspective shots

The rubbing compound scoured the paint with thousands of swirls; these swirls actually masked the deeper straight-line scratches that we revealed after we used ScratchX to remove the lighter swirls surrounding them.

In these shots they don't show the straight-line scratches very well but they're there, and they're deep.

Let's see if anyone else captured some shots of these, (I didn't, too busy working them out), we did capture video of them for sure.

Point being is that there are a lot of people that have done this same thing by accident, their goal was to remove some type of defect in their pride and joy but the product they used ended up making things even worse. Luckily through word-of-mouth advertising and Meguiar's involvement in the car show hobby, Jackie heard about our Open Garage nights here at Meguiar's and she trusted us to show her how to properly remove the defects and restore the shine and luster to her baby.

I think these are the shots Mike was looking for on the hood of the Nash.

Before - you can just make out some straight scratches among all those circular ones:

After - and now they're gone!!:

RCBuddha brought his Gilmour Foam Gun to give us a little demonstration. I think I need to get me one of these bad boys!!!

What kind of soap was being used?
It's only weird because it's not normal

That was Meguiar's Super Soap from the Detailer Line, but those who have used this gun say you can use almost anything with very good results.

              Meguiars Super Soap

I also used a non-meguiars soap for the demonstration, but the gilmour works well with quite a few soaps on the market. Not sure which one is in the photos, but the foam stayed around for quite a while.

              Mike-in-Orange,

Nice to meet you! NOW GO AND GET the Gilmour!!!!

Good to see a lot of faces, nice to meet a few new ones!

And to Mr. Phillips....that Habenero sauce was just pure evil!

What is the consistency of super soap? I am looking for something that I don't have to dilute partially with water for my gilmour.

I still had to dilute the super soap, it was very thick. I usually pour in about 1-1.5 ounces of soap, then add water, but that ratio has to be adjusted depending on the soap being used.

Those little Nash are cool. Seeing one, which is once every two years around here, instantly brings a smile on my face.

Learned a new fact about the Metropolitans at the Unique Little Car Show 04/21/07...the car doors are interchangeable before the hinges and door handles are on. This was a cost saving measure by the Nash Company!I had to take another look at your photos and I can see how this is possible!

                      All the best,
