I'm just a weekend detailer, so I just use my truck as it is. I can actually fit most of my detailing stuff in the extended cab (I don't have a generator or water tank). That way it is protected from the elements.

I use a 2004 Chevy Silverado with a Utility bed. It works great other than the gas milage. I just got the trailer and it's for my Meguiars products supply company.

I've used both trailers and pick ups. Trailer is a great way to haul everything around so at the end of the day you can put it in the garage for safe keeping. The bed of the truck is easy and compact for tight parking spots, but always worried about theft at night. I have a Dodge 1ton dually and carry 230 gal tank with a pressure washer, gen, vac, plus all the goodies for detailing. Cheapest is to start with truck mount though.
