    Pictures from Meguiar's Open Garage - January 10th, 2008

Another fun night at Meguiar's Garage!

Tonight we have a 1974 Mercedes-Benz and a 2007 Mini Cooper that both need to be Meguiarized.

Nappers wasn't sure if his G100 was working properly so he sent it to use to compare against known good units and from experience and were happy to say it's working just like it's supposed to.

It looks like you're using the new model g100. How do you like the handle position as opposed to the old one with the handle removed?

        My 2 cents...

The handle works pretty good, it's adjustable you can experiment and find a location that works best for you or remove and use the tool without it. Next time you come to one of our Thursday night classes you give it a test driver yourself...

EXCELLENT! Well, not really, now I have to figure out what I was doing wrong. Not fair that my G100 got to go to Meguiars open garage and I didn't.

Thanks Mike and the gang for checking for me. Looking back I think I had pad saturation problem.

          Looks like you had fun.

Nice to get back into Meguiar's Garage with the usual gang!! I had fun helping Rick and Erica take care of some issues with their MINI and help them learn how to use the G110 to shine it up right. There was some etching on the hood from a bird bomb which Rick tried to remove with some 2000 grit wet sanding.

Here's Mike Phillips going at the sanding marks and remaining etching with a W5000 Double-Sided Wool Cutting Pad and some M105 Ultra Cut Compound. When he was done so were the sanding marks and etchings.

When Mike was done Erica started looking a bit closer at the hood and noticed several other scratches and bad water spotting. The water spots wouldn't come out with clay so I hit the whole hood with the same W5000 pad and M105. This is what I got.

Rick has a G100 at home and wanted Erica to learn how to use it. She was pretty nervous at first but after a few minutes we couldn't get the darn thing away from her! Here she's using M80 on a W8006 pad as a follow up to the rotary work.

So we moved on to some clay bar instruction and Rick & Erica attacked the roof of the MINI. Can you believe this junk came off that white paint??

After applying a coat of NXT 2.0 to the hood I wanted to grab a reflection shot of the Meguiar's sign in the hood but Erica stepped into the frame at the last second.

A great night all around, and I really enjoy helping new people learn how to use the G110 and the different polishes, cleaners, etc.

When using a rotary buffer to buff areas where you need to be very careful and have absolute control over the buffer, scrunch your arms up and hold the buffer close to your body, tighten up you arm and shoulder and back muscles to really get firm control over the tool so it doesn't get away from you. Check out Paul and Shawn below and see how close they're holding the rotary to their body versus standing back and stretching out their arms.

any chance of me stealing any of those M105 pics.

Great open garage, it was tons of fun meeting some of the newer guys as well as people who have been on the forum forever. Great opportunity to learn about Meguiar's newest offerings, as well as demonstrating proper techniques to achieve show car finishes. Two thumbs up for the Thursday night garages. :P Hopefully I will be attending another one soon.

I would like to personally thank everyone who came, and the owner of the SL as well as Rick and Erica.
