  • Taking care of a matte finish

Got a call from a customer that has a challenger with a black matte finish hood. He's got some scratches in it, and wants them out. I have never been able to work with a matte finish, and not make it a little more glossy. Is there any way to do this? He does not want the matte finish to go away.

    Thanks,
    Nick

No way to work on matte finishes without changing the appearance of the paint where you have worked.

Rub down with Trim Detailer, let penetrated for a few seconds then wipe off softly and thoroughly with a clean, soft microfiber.

    Best you can do...

    Sorry...

Good to know. I have a matte finish on the hardtop of my miata and have never used anything on it for fear of damage.

Interesting article from the Detroit News on the current trend with matte finishes and some of the problems associated with same.

I can see the interest in the matte finishes, the vehicles certainly take on a new and interesting look. But wow..... what a nightmare for people like a lot of us here on MOL that like to get as close to perfection has possible with our vehicles finish. I would think there would be a myriad of problems trying to keep in finish looking right.
