  • Recommend a Synthetic Sealant?

In preparation for my spring cleaning (2008 BMW 335i Jet Black), I've spent a few hours reading various articles on detailing. Rather than a waxing, I've decided on a synthetic sealant. Going to try the following:

    1. Wash: Mothers California Gold wash.
    2. Clay: Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit
    3. Sealant: Need your suggestions., Klasse Sealant Glaze, something from Meguiar's maybe?

Are Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 Paste and NXT Generation Spray Wax the same thing?

I don't have the luxury of waxing on a monthly basis year round. Looking for something that's going to last me a few month. I've read some claims of Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze (multiple layers) lasting up to 6 months. Which is perfect for me. Can anyone recommend a synthetic sealant...?

    Re: Recommend a Synthetic Sealant?

NXT 2.0, 21 2.0 and even 20 are are excellent sealants. NXT 2.0 has been on my car for 2 months covered with salt and road grime and when I washed it last week, it still looked great and the water sheeted right off. I'd give it high marks.

NXT Next Gen wax and the NXT spray wax are two separate products. NXT spray wax is a booster wax made to use in between waxings. I great product Meguiars has out now is Ultimate Quick Detailer, which I really like to use in between waxings.

Somewhere on this forum we have a picture of a thick layer of SG on our Blazer to show that if you actually could layer it, it would turn your car white as it's dries white and dries like Elmer's glue. When it gets wet it shrivels up.

Try the new NXT 2.0 it will make your black paint look great.

We'll try to find the picture of the SG on the Blazer.

As previously mentioned, I'm looking to get maximize longevity due to weather conditions not allowing a waxing for up to 6 months. Can the NXT 2.0 wax paste be layered? If so, is there any benefit to this?

Paste vs liquid, what are the pros vs cons?

          My 2 cents...

How long a wax lasts is subjective due weather conditions, if the car is garaged, and air contaminates etc,. I can't say how long exactly any sealant lasts, but the Meguiars sealants do hold up well IMO. Meguiars recommends two coats of any LSP, not sure in the NXT or 20 line that you would benefit from doing any more of that since they have a small amount of cleaning ability. 26 is a pure LSP with no cleaning ability and probably could be layered. I'm not sure about 21.

Paste versus liquid, I would say is purely personal preference...

Understood. I'm in Canada, the car is exposed to the elements and cold temperatures. Fending off dirt and salt are a constant battle, so things don't stay clean 4 months of the year. I'm trying to select the best product to protect my paint and keep it looking good once cleaned.

The new NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 Paste seems to be a wise choice, but then again I've read a lot about #21 Synthetic sealant too.

Just want to make sure I select the right product for the job.

21 is a awsome product, probably my favorite LSP and what I recommend on my customers cars for looks and protection.

              Hope anything I said helped...

Helpful, I appreciate the comments. But are NXT 2.0 Paste and #21 like products, just one newer than the other?

                  Re: Recommend a Synthetic Sealant?

I've never used NXT, but I've read many times here that #21 lasts longer.

I use #21 and won't get to #21 Version 2.0 until I use up my supply. In the Spring I will clay and then perhaps use Cleaner Wax prior to the #21.

I don't like to let it go 6 months, but I think my wife's silver Camry is going to be that long, since I missed it in November, due to weather. It's still beading and washing up beautifully.

                  Give #21 a try.

So.... NXT 2.0 is basically the new version of #21?

They are different products. One of the differences that I see (from the product catalog listing here) is that NXT 2.0 is a consumer product, whereas the #21 is in the professional line of products.

Not really. Both NXT and M21 have been reformulated with hydrophobic technology and upgraded to Version 2.0 status. M21 is from the professional line and can be applied with a rotary buffer, whereas NXT is in the consumer line and is designed to be applied by hand or DA. NXT is also available in either liquid or paste form while M21 is liquid only.

No one on any other forum has ever proved any product can be layered so it's all just talk.

I'll give anyone a crisp, $100.00 bill if they post a how-to article that shows a person the steps and the product that will create a thicker and thicker layer on the surface of automotive paint with more and more applications of a paint protectant product and the paint has to look good with each application, it can't get milkier and milkier or less clear and less clear with each application.

There is no such thing as a miracle wax, if you want your paint to stay in good shape you'll need to find a product you like and use it often or as often as it will require to maintain the finish to your expectations balanced against how you treat the car, i.e. taking your car to an automatic car wash will wear the paint down faster than you washing the car carefully by hand using a high quality wash mitt and a high quality car wash solution.

Mike.... Ewwww, looks like a cow utter had an accident on the hood. I haven't bought anything yet, just doing research before doing so. I'm the type that likes best of the best.

Mike-in-Orange brought up a good point, the NXT 2.0 is applied by hand, where as #21 requires a buffer. Pretty sure I'll go with the NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 Paste.

                              Catchit,
you can apply 21 by hand, DA or rotary, where as NXT is hand or DA only.
