  • What is a good engine compartment cleaner

I live on a dirt road so my engine gets dirty fast and all the black plastic and rubber turn brown from the dirt so does megs make a engine compartment cleaner?

meg's does not make an engine specific cleaner. I have had good luck using super degreaser, safe degreaser(discontinued), apc, and apc plus. All of these will make a good engine compartment cleaner. Just remember to protect vital electonic components under the hood.

I will use plastic bags with tape to wrap my fuse box.
      Thanks for the product suggestions.

It is also good to cover up water pump, alternator ,power steering pump, air con compressor, any items that use bearings as tere lub could be washed away. Personally i clean engines and compartments with the minimum of water rather use a damp sponge or cloth.

I spray mine down with water to get rid of any loose dirt. Spray with APC+ liberally, scrub, then rinse.

I have a thread on the old forum about this...

Just be sure to cover electrical components, such as fuse box, coils, distributor caps, etc.

I was told to use Simple Green b/c it's a good degreaser and is good for the environment. Is this true?

From my experience, Simple Green is hard on raw aluminum. You would be much better off with a dedicated engine degreaser.

I have heard the same about the aluminum. I have used Simple Green, properly diluted (which is very, very important with SG), no problems.

Nope, but I used the original vs. Meg's APC (not APC+), both diluted 10:1 and the APC worked much better (yes, dummy I know I'm using the wrong product - LOL).
