  • How NOT to package a shipment.

Well, many of you remember the watch scam a few weeks ago.

Fortunately, the chargeback went through AND the seller lost the PayPal case! I'd like to thank everyone for their help and support.

So, I got an email from the scammer today asking to ship the watch back. I thought this package deserved to be well protected...

    Step 1
Make sure there is plenty of packing material surrounding the item.

    Step 2
Seal the sides of the box with the glue of your choice.

    Step 3
Add a few 1/2" box staples to both sides.

    Step 4
Wrap in some industrial wrapping and secure it with some more box staples. I went ahead and took a heat gun and shrunk the wrapping.

    Step 5
Obtain another box and seal it with your choice of glue.

    Step 6
Apply glue to the original package.

    Step 7
Place in the bottom corner of the new box. Put some box staples through the outer box into the smaller box. This insures the box will not move in shipment.

    Step 8
Fill the box with packing material and seal the new box with glue and staple shut.

    Step 9
    Seal with brown paper tape.

    Optional
Place your choice of stickers on top.

To make sure that I am not liable for any damage in shipping, I will have the scammer send a courier to pick up the package.

    Remember, this is a joke...

When I read the subject line I thought maybe you had a photo of the one I sent you. lol

I know you said it was a joke, but I'd send it to him that way. I bet you had a smile ear to ear doing that.

If you already got your money back, I would have put a brick in the first box with the watch glued to that. Then I'd tell the scammer that I packaged it really well so there's no need to insure the package. Ha Ha. Who's laughing now!!
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Re: How NOT to package a shipment.

You missed one very important step in this processes. When you place your smaller box inside your larger box, the correct procedure is to use expanding foam to fill the gap in the boxes.

I sent a package to a friend that way. Also the thing that he needed was placed inside a sharps container (you know the red thing the doctors put needles in) that is designed NOT to open... lol

                          Is that Gorilla Glue?

                          Either way, nice and secure.

Geez buddy, the packaging is worth more than the piece of junk watch you're sending back!! Well done!

                              Yup, it's Gorilla Glue.

Just to clarify for Joe, I did this during lunch break and paid for the box.

I did recieve a call from the scammer tonight (surprised he even talked). He wasn't too pleased when I told him that he would have to hire a courier and he is totally responsible for shipping. Considering how much I've spent so far, I'm not about to pay for shipping and insurance!
