After the hand techniques demonstration, we pulled the Porsche back into the garage and let everyone try their hand using the G-100 Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher. After the owner gave it one final wipe, we again pulled the car out into the sun for everyone to inspect.

These two guys wanted to be first to see the results! Note the owner is still in the car...

While we didn't get any after shots after polishing the paint out by machine, I think the way everyone is looking at their reflections in the finish in bright sun tells the story...

(Hopefully some of the members of Zone 8 will chime in and post their comments)

Here's one more shot of the owner inspecting his car's finish,

So Scratch-X is good for use all over the car, not just localized blemishes? Or is there something better to remove (amateur) rotary buffer swirls over a whole car, by hand?

            Hi mzmtg,

ScratchX can be used over the entire car, I'm not sure why, but it seems to be perceived as a product that is for spot work, as in apply to a small area to remove a defect. But right on the back label it says it can be used just for spot areas, or over the entire car.

Here's a little how-to article for using this product and getting good resutls,

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

If your car does in fact have buffer swirl, that is gross swirls instilled by the improper use of a rotary buffer, the the best way to remove this is to re-buff the car using either a rotary buffer, (the correct way with the right chemicals and foam buffing pads), or with the PC and the right chemicals and foam pads.

If the buffer swirl is deep, then a PC may not be aggressive enough to remove the swirls.
