  • What order to use the following products...?

First post, I've been lurking for a few months!

I've tryed searching a lot but keep getting lost. Im detailing my moms new car (one week old) and my girlfriends car. I want to get a good coat of wax on both obviously so here is what I am going to do on both.

Wash with Gold class shampoo then clay both. I want multiple layers of wax, I have Gold Class Paste Wax and NxT Tech Wax 2.0, so should I do Gold class twice following with a coat of NxT Tech Wax 2.0, or vice versa? Also would it hurt after the order y'all recommend to go ahead and wipe it the entire car down with UQD after applying the coats of wax? Will it add to the gloss and shine? Thanks guys, leave me your comments while I go wash/clay them both.

Edit: One more question, is it okay if UQD gets on exterior rubber / vinyl?

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

You're process should look like this,

    Wash
    Clay
    Wax

Both the Gold Class and the NXT Tech Wax are great waxes but you really only need to apply one of them and then in you want to insure a uniform coating of wax over the entire finish, the apply a second coat after removing the first coating after it has fully dried.

If the paint on these cars is neglected, then you might want to start with a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner after the claying step, but before the waxing step.

Basically follow the outline here, but you can skip the polishing step if you like.

Have you read about the 5 step process?

      5 step process

I only added that so that you get the potential out of the above waxes.

I never read anyone combining GC wax with NXT. That doesn't say that I would not say it wouldn't work.

You could lay down the GC wax and if memory serves, it's a carnuba, polymer wax and then "seal" it with the NXT.

Be sure to check the condtion of the paint. If you see swirls, then they may still be present after a waxing.

The Deep Crystal series is a great series to maintain your finish.

Your on the right track with washing and claying the paint.

      keep us posted.

Would you want to clay a car that is only one week old? I would say clay your girlfriends car, but you may want to let your mom's paint surface cure a little longer.

Of course, since Mike didn't say anything about it, that might not be an issue. I was of the understanding that generally speaking there is a cure time involved with new car finishes.

As for the wax, I would agree that you could use GC, then cover or "seal" with NXT 2.0. I would not double GC, then top with NXT. Two coats would be enough, not for depth, but (as Mike said) for even coverage . . . and I would use GC, then NXT 2.0 or two coats of NXT 2.0.

Claying not only removes surface contaminates (again, probably not too many on the newer car unless it has been exposed to excessive acid rain, tree sap drippings, airline exhaust, etc.) but also makes the surface as smooth as "butta". It's amazing the results that you get from clay.

          Happy detailing!

Factory finishes are cured by the time you buy them. You can clay it at the dealership if you wanted to.

Right. Factory finishes are baked at the factory and are fully cured. Not only that, but depending on how the car has been transported, often by rail, there exists the very real potential for bonded surface contaminants to already be there, especially rail dust. Bottom line, if the surface feels rough to the touch, clay it.

I am always amazed at how bad new cars are in need of claying. You know with dealer prep and all.

I would agree with the claying step, if the surface feels rough. It makes a heck of a difference in the final results. Look forward to seeing your pics.
