I agree with Roushstage2. The hot rims also works well with a mothers powerball.

I'd just go clean, then clay and polish with Hot Metal.

I dunno about #0000 steel wool.. never used it. Certainly got good results with terry alone. I'd do the milder terry first.

And it is Meguiars Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish.....

The reason I suggest steel wool is it looks like there is rust? To clarify, don't polish with the steel wool. Just get it wet and gently rub it which should loosen up all of that rust. Then polish it up with the Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum polish. If it isn't rust, go with just the polish first like Murr said.

                Hey racingfan
try using meguiars new hot rims chrome polish liquid, and apply some on a terry cloth towel or MF first and rub in on surface of exhaust tip to see if any improvements.

If not then use the 0000 steelwool and soak the steelwool with the hot rims chrome polish (always keep the steelwool soaked with whatever product your using to keep from putting scratches or swirls on your surface)and gently rub on surface to remove the surface rust.(after finished with the steelwool put in a zip lock bag to keep for future use)
Then buff off with a MF and apply another coat of hot rim chrome polish by hand and polish off with a MF.

Let us know your results which everway you decided and your outcome.

Be careful with the steel wool, it could leave tiny scratches. Then agree with others, Hot Rims Aluminum/Chrome polish (black tin), stuff works great. Also, there is a new bottle of Hot Rims Chrome polish.

                  Use least aggressive first!

WD-40 works well for road tar on paint. Since it's chrome, maybe a solvent of some type (gas) on a rag and wipe off......
