  • By hand--

Well it was heck but I did my wife's car over the 4th wekend. 97 Ford Escort that has never been clayed, polished or waxed and for the most part has been washed in commercial car washes. I never had time to care for it properly when I was working, but now have the time and wanted to at least make it respectable without going to the expense of purchasing a PC. I also didn't want to purchase alot of additional products so used what I am currently using on my car. Considering the care it never recieved it wasn't in too bad a shape as it was at least always garaged.

    Process:

    Washed
    Removed Tar on rocker panels
    Clayed
Tires cleaned with Wesley's Tire Cleaner, treated with 3M Tire Restorer
    Polished with M105
Applied ColorX and buffed off with MF
    Applied Zaino ZCS next morning
Applied Optimum Spray Car Wax after 6 hours

Took a total of 2 1/2 days and it was hell, but all in all I'm pleased with the results. Not perfect by any means, but the combination of the 105 and ColorX worked well and at least made it respectable and it will be much easier to keep clean.

Thanks to all of the help from Mike, Tim and other members who responded to my posts over the past couple of months.

I found the MF applicator with 105 worked best as Tim suggested after trying Terry and Foam. On the Ford's paint I found using less 105 and working less time provided the best results with only one application. In some spots where there were deeper scratches I did two applications, but my arm couldn't take doing the whole car twice. Some very minor swirls remain and some of the deeper scratches are visible, but diminished significantly. The only problem I really experienced was on the front of the car -- any small stone chips filled with the M105 making them more visible and I still haven't been able to get the 105 out.

Sorry but my "before" pictures are not very good as there was no sun that day, but I think you can get the idea.

    Now on to the interior!!!

      Very respectable indeed!

M105 is some pretty interesting new technology.

So using M105 by hand is better than M80 or M83 by hand? I have severe swirls on a black honda.

There is a guy over on Autopia who has been using 105 with a 10 year old Coleman inexpensive buffer and getting great results. He uses a synthetic wool bonnet and works slowly in small sections. When the 105 starts to flash he spritzes it with water then works it a short bit longer. He was successful in removing swirls from aircraft grade clear coat (very hard).
