    Mike,

Why not try an authorized Makita repair shop?

I looked up you zip code and there's a few in the area.

Check the brushes. if the full surface contact of the brush is not 100%against the comm. it will effect rpm's and power.

Ive had my dewalt for a few years now. Its has taken the abuse ive thrown at it. I do make sure that I do a thorough cleaning when ever I disassemble it. Im just waiting for this thing to die so I can buy me a makita.

Sounds like you're getting your money's worth!

How about a picture of your classic rotary buffer?

                Thanks Chris,

There's one in Hesparia which is about 7 miles from me, I'll drop it off next time I'm over that way, hopefully they'll have a new rubber block for the top of the head as mine's pretty worn out.

                Cool.

I've got a 30 year old BlackHawk 1,800 RPM that I purchased at NAPA.

During high school and some during college, I worked detailing cars for dealers or for extra money. I could finish a job fast with it back in those days. I took it out last summer and worked over my black truck to get rid of scratches and swirl marks from the previous owner.

Here's a link to the page where I talk about it below.

Re: How Long Does Your Rotary Buffer Last ?

                        Hi,

I was told (by tool-store employee) that the Makita 9227CB is good for atleast 2000 hours use of course depending on conditions it is used in, was the bloke in the store I bought it from. They apparently sell alot of grinders 4",4.5", 5",7"(the new nine inch as 9" was banned by WHSO-workplace health and safety on some sites due to injuries) and 9" ones to the mining industry here in Australia. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about...

                        Regards

                        Alex
