  • Self healing paint article

This was AOL so i thought i would pass it along

    Self-Healing Paint
The Infiniti EX35 and redesigned 2009 FX come with Scratch-Shield paint, a self-repairing resin clearcoat that stretches to repair scratches over the course of a few days. But don't start encouraging your friends to test it out. The paint works well for fine scratches from fingernails, not malicious gouging from keys.

yeah I saw the same article. I wonder if it works well on swirl marks. I think this was many years in the making because I think I heard about this paint years back.

It is cool I was talking to one of the infiniti head cheese guys when I was in monterey and the paint is like a gel coat clear coat it is softer and will heal on its own for fine scratches by being in the sun and the sun heats up the paint and the scartch fills in on its own. That is way to cool.

I worked on a 08 Inifinty that I was told had that same tech. It was only a wash and I was in Arizona, so I didn't have any compounds with me to try on the paint. It washed and dry just like a regular car would.

That sounds like a unbelievable paint job. Light swirls self correcting.

Time will tell if the average person can work on it by hand.

That's an important factor for most car owners. Next Professionals will need to be able to work on it by hand and machine.

If its really soft when its warm I wonder if it will gum up if you try to use a rotary on it?

Next time I'm in AZ, I'll make sure and bring more tools along and do a couple test spots on that Infinity.

It is still hard but soft. It should not get that soft. The paint only protects against fine scartches. The guy said at Infiniti. It is like a normal clear coat paint.
