Re: SwirlX

Yup I know. But I'm just curious for this orbital polisher. But is it ok for applying Wax only? As I know in my country, the orbital polishers speed was about 2800-3500RPM. Is it too fast or is it OK?

I'd just try DA last Friday and it was easy to use even it vibrates a lot. hehehe...

Thanks

Re: SwirlX

I just finished reading this entire thread and thought I would sum where many of the products discussed here fit into the program. Meguiar’s offers many ways to approach the common three step process of clean, polish, wax. I’m going to just address the cleaner/polish combinations because there are many wax and cleaner/wax solutions that would warrant its own post.
The cleaner/polish pairs are available in the consumer and professional lines and in diminishing abrasive and super-micro abrasive technology (SMAT).

Professional Line: All can be applied by hand, Dual Action or Rotary
M83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish and M80 Speed Glaze – Diminishing Abrasives
M105 Ultra-Cut Compound and M205 Ultra Finishing Polish – SMAT

Consumer Line: All can be applied by hand or Dual Action Polisher only
A30 Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner and A21 Deep Crystal System Polish – Diminishing Abrasives
G172 Ultimate Compound and G176 SwirlX – SMAT

All of these combinations provide similar results in terms of being an aggressive cleaner and then a polish. Each is it’s own unique product. Generally the consumer products are more forgiving and easier to apply and remove than the professional products. At this point I think most people are recommending going with the newer SMAT products. They have all gotten rave reviews. And I think for most consumers and even enthusiasts the Ultimate Compound/SwirlX products will do an excellent job and be very satisfying to use. The M105/M205 products have gotten terrific reviews, but can be tricky to apply, hard to find in stores and only come in quart and gallon size (although you can get a 12 oz. sampler size at AutoDetailingSolutions.net).

I hope you find this summary useful.

Where does M09 fit into the agressiveness picture? Less than SwirlX?

Yes, M09 would be less aggressive than SwirlX.

Any filling that SwirlX might do would be caused by improper wipe off. It utilizes super micro abrasive technology similar to that found in M105 Ultra Cut Compound and will physically remove swirls, not just hide them. It is not a body shop safe product, meaning it does some slight amount of silicone in it. The use of silicone here is simply to make it a more consumer friendly product, with easier wipe off, etc.

If by fillers you actually mean glaze/polish oils to nuture the paint, then I am fairly certain the answer is yes for SwirlX. Not as much nuturing oils as a pure polish like M07 (or DC2 etc), but I believe it is not a pure cleaner and by design it has some amount of polish (oils). By contrast, I believe that ScratchX and UC are pure cleaners without any significant polish. That is why if I have some minor swirls or scratches I want to be sure I remove, I tend to favor ScratchX (initially lightly applied) so I can more clearly see if the defects are actually removed (the polish in SwirlX makes that harder to determine).

Meguiars is fairly clear and consistent in their explaination that polish is not really "filler" (for example, not filling in swirls with deposited material), but rather microscopic oils that nuture the paint and help give it that deep wet-look. Clearly something is left behind (the oils nuturing the paint) but not what most folks mean by "fillers".

See the very detailed discussion by Meguiar's Mike Phillips: Does ScratchX have fillers
