    Re: Training for retail clerks?

The overall sentiment in this thread is that basically customer service is a thing of the past. I agree, it would be fantastic to go to a store and they had a better then basic knowledge of the stuff they sell. But for some reason, educating and taking care of the customer is not what it use to be.

That booklet would be great to have.

Agreed J.A. customer service in the store is a thing of the past. I guess with the Internet we have the self-service support option, like MOL. Which, I will state: is a fantastic support option and brand experience rolled into one. Guess, I'm just kind of "old-fashioned". There are no PBEs around and my only options are to shop online or retail.

Just seeing those YouTube videos from that other company where supposedly a store clerk gets hauled out to the parking lot for an impromptu product shoot out against Megs really made me wince. The kid didn't have a chance. Hell, not the long ago, I was that kid.

Did you guys know that in the early 90's Sega and Nintendo both subsidized hourly wages for two "product specialists" at Toys R Us during the busy holiday season?

I think I know exactly how you felt! The enthusiasm inside you over came any shy issues you had so you could save someone from making an uninformed mistake - done it my self in Halfords!

I will say that in what I do I take advantage of every opportunity to train the people that work with the retail customers for the company that I work for. I do an overview during one class and then individual training where I can create the time. The unfortunate part of this is that there are so many that could use the training and there is only one of me!
