I've tried both. I like the foam much better. Unfortunately, the foam are not easy to find over-the-counter, at least where I live.

If I'm looking for some bite I go with microfiber or terry applicators. If I'm only looking to apply something, like a dressing, I go with foam.

I like the foam. However to apply All season Dressing in the wheel wells I like a terry cloth applicator.

          Depends what your doing.....

Applying waxes/cleaners etc. Yellow Foam applicator (cut up terry for more bite as needed)

White Even Coat Applicator (square ones) to apply my dressings on the interior.

Cheapo Blue MF applicators for exterior plastics. I dropped the white ones once and I spent an hour picking fox tails out of it before I washed it......

Eagle One Tire sponge gizmos for tire dressings.

          and the sickness continues! LOL

Really depends on the task at hand.
Are you looking an applicator for a specific task?

All the meguiar's kits come with foam applicators. They are very high quality ones too, my favorite.

                Polish: Microfiber
                Wax: Foam
                Matt

I found that for trim, the microfiber applicators tend to work better for me. Foam always for the paint!
