    Re: A Meguiar's Boutique Wax

M16 should be a boutique wax. Looks great, takes some knowledge to apply and is hard to find. Luckily for us, it's not $100 per tin, although could be if Megs ever stops making it.
NOTE: Post count does not reflect actual detailing knowledge.

They already did stop making it a couple years back....

          Re: A Meguiar's Boutique Wax

          I understand your point TC...

I get so tired of people thinking that "other" brands are better when they are not.

Fancy brand name and price tag. This won't really help Meguiar's. It will just make them look like they are copying those other brands.

But, On the other side of things. I also think Meg's should have a high priced wax just so it's out there. Even if it's NXT in a different bottle.

Some detailers don't take the Main brands (Meg's, Mothers, Turtle Wax, Armor All,etc)

Seriously because they all have the same product lineups:
          Classic Consumer
          "Street" Line-FX, NXT,etc,etc
          "Elite" --Gold Class,Carnuba, professional, etc.

Just having a high priced line up would seperate Meg's from the rest. Just my opinion...

            Re: A Meguiar's Boutique Wax

I have read with interest this thread. I still do not get it. Repackage a existing wax just to give it a boutique price tag? Maybe it is just because I am old, lol. It just does not make sense to me. Not always does price equal performance. Just typing out loud. Keep it the way it is and let others pay outrageous prices for a boutique wax. When we all know that it is the preparation that determines the final outcome.

Maybe some one can explain it to me in a way that computes better to my head. lol

How much does it cost Meguiars to make any of their waxes? If you think about that you will know that you get what you pay for. Not that they are not good but there are not the best for your dollar. When you buy a BENZ you get a can of swissvax in the trunk.

This thread loses me a little bit, too.

I can understand the prestige thing and that to some "less expensive" may mean "inferior." However, I have to believe that the Meguiar's folks are savvy enough to have considered a high-end market and if it were consistent with their business model and marketing philosophy would pursue it. However, I, for one, would also have an extremely hard time understanding the notion that I should spend more for a boutique wax because it...well...costs more!?

                  Re: A Meguiar's Boutique Wax

I think the original concept behind the thread is a good one.

For the users, and for the company.

Here's why: "Boutique" waxes (ie "rare" waxes with big price tags and special names) get extra attention and praise in the "hardcore" community. They are also a great way to get a loyal following, and introduce products like Meguiar's into the professional arena.

A lot of people "assume" (incorrectly) that Meguiar's makes consumer line products, and many professionals overlook the vast offering of Mirror Glaze, SOLO, and Detailer line products that are actually catered for their needs. Having a high-end boutique wax would help to create buzz about the brand; which in turn helps to introduce other products to the users. If they love the boutique wax, they will be more likely to try other products.

All in all, I think a nice boutique wax would be a fantastic idea. It also provides a great marketing ability for detailers to offer a "top shelf" wax to their customers.

I think PorscheGuy997 is working on his own version of a Meguiar's based boutique wax...

                    Any hints, Chris???

                      No...I haven't been mixing M16 with M26...Me?...never...

You'll see a thread about it tomorrow.

According to David Pickett (Meg's boss in Europe) they only stopped making it for the US, we can still buy as many tins as we want here

Anyone has an idea how much carnauba there is in a tub of M26 or M16?

This is an intriguing idea. I wouldn't mind purchasing a boutique Meguiar's wax, especially if it came in a nice wooden box with a crystal lid, and a golden plaque with it's name on it. If I may suggest that it be autographed by the industries leading finish specialist Mr. Barry Meguiar.

The reason I, and many, many others, use Meguiar's products is because they are great products at reasonable prices.
Asking Meguiar's to raise their prices because some detailers might be unaware of Meg's other lines, (Professional, Detailer, etc), is an idea that I just don't comprehend.
Asking Meg's to take a reasonably-priced item and raise its price by packaging it differently just flies over my head.
Please, Meguiar's, don't raise prices just so I can brag that I'm paying more than a product is worth.
Besides, my wife already winces each time I purchase another detailing item.

I don't think anyone wants Meg's to raise prices, but simply to develop a new product for customers that would otherwise purchase a boutique (expensive) wax.
