  • vinyl has streaks from natural shine....HELP

so i have a chevy trailblazer with a vinyl dash. i tried natural shine and it seems to have left streaks on the dash that i can not remove. meaning if you look at it from a good angle it has 3 smear strips on the dash.

i have tried p21s total wash and also meguiar's #39 cleaner and i can t remove the streaks

a local detail guy said natural shine as silicone in it and thats why it happen and why it is so hard to get off and suggested i wait till the summer, so removal might be easier...

if i sit there and rub it out with my finger it spreads the streak out...so maybe the heat from the finger friction helps release the product

can anyone help out and suggest a way to remove the streaks

I run into that time to time regardless of what dressing I use (M40, Natural Shine) and I reapplied it and laid it on heavy and let it sit and wiped with a clean MF towel and it cured it.

Make sure whatever you use to apply it is not contaminated with anything else. Washing towels with NO SOFTNER in the wash especially.

I'm sure others will chime in.

    Keep us posted.

    Oh! and to MOL!

APC might work, or fairy liquid (or equivalent), it may need to be warm, or getting out the hair dryer to get a bit of heat into the vinyl (if its as cold as it is here)

i have noticed this as well but then i switched my application method and started using a hi tech applicator pad. This resulted in a more uniform appearance and it didnt streak. Even when i didnt use the applicator pad i could always remove any streaks with APC, i wonder why M39 heavy duty vinyl cleaner might not remove it.

              Good point.

I use the white Even Coat Applicators and they work awesome!

yes i love the even coat applicators as well, however i need to purchase more. I have 18 Hi tech applicator pads( good deal at bass pro shops) and only 2 even coat applicator pads... lol

That is very interesting. I have gone through 2 bottles of Natural Shine on many different vehicles and never experienced anything like this. Was the dash clean before you applied it? More so, was there another product that may have been on the dash already?

I would give it a good washing with apc. Then dry it completely. Then try your protectorant. Try spraying it on the applicator. Not on the dash. This should help you out.

Re: vinyl has streaks from natural shine....HELP

                          to answer some questions:

the dash was clean, its an 08 and no other product was used... i have used natural shine on my 1998 trans am with great sucess...

i have tried an all purpose cleaner (#39 and p21s)... unless some can suggest a brand

today i tried #39 again (soapy rag)
followed by a wet rag with a dime size of dawn
followed by a straight wet rag
folowed by a dry rag (all micro fiber)

this minimized the streaks...not fully gone

followed it with vinylex....#40 was a bit to glossy

its a bit dark now but i will post some comments tomorrow

also a quote from the GM manual:

"Do not use silicone or wax-based
products, or those containing organic solvents to clean
your vehicle's interior because they can alter the
appearance by increasing the gloss in a non-uniform
                          manner."

Tom did confirm natural shine does contain silicone even thought the product is water based. And also, after showing him pictures of my dash did confirm that the newer matte finish vinyl dashes do soak up product

                          more comments are greatly welcome

My Neon streaked and it seemed to "soak" up a lot of product before settling down and looking good.

I guess GM makes good vinyl interiors as my truck seems to take to any of Megs dressing fine and dosent smear
